D-2: Push for the Channel Ports

283061

Uppon arrival from patrol at 3000 ft S/Ldr Blackwood spotted two Bf-110 approaching Duxford Airfield. Immediately he radioed the warning message down and turned to intercept bandits. Luckily F/Lt Rypl was just about to take-off with his Hurricane to aid him.
Bf-110 split the formation, one descended to attack the Airfield while the other was giving him cover. AA crew opened the fire, which was ineffective at the beginning.

S/Ldr Blackwood outmaneuvered covering Bf-110, gave him several heavy bursts and was capable also to hit the other Bf-110 in his descent. F/Lt Rypl cahasing the straffing Bf-110 was not able to gain his altitude that quickly.
Later AA fire started to be more effective, scoring several hits and so Bf-110 was able to do only two strafing runs with inferior effect. As being tailed from below by F/Lt Rypl, Bf-110 kept higher and being havily damaged by AA it was shot down by S/Ldr Blackwood on a "head on" pass just above the Airfield.

The other heavily damaged Bf-110 left for home. Hurricanes were far away to get upon him so they landed safely after their victory.

Channel patrol

283179

S/Ldr Hess and P/O Fechtner took off for patrol flight over the channel. Close to the shore they spotted two german bombers heading towards Britain. They were identified as Do-17.
Hurricanes steered left to attack from the side, but Dorniers turned towards them.

Dorniers flew higher and so S/Ldr Hess and P/O Fechtner were not able to attack head on. So they halflooped behind Dorniers gaining some altitude but too close to Jerries. Their defensive fire was harmless luckily. Hurricannes had to maneuver to get good aim and so they got to firing positions rarely. Dorniers started maneuvring to make aiming difficult.
Finally S/Ldr Hess and P/O Fechtner managed to climb bombers altitude and made coordinated attack to the side of leading Dornier damaging him significantly. Then P/O Fechtner succeded to turn in attacking position from right side and finished the Dornier off.

S/Ldr Hess focused on second Dornier. He started shooting in turn with bad foreaiming. Then P/O Fechtner collided with the Dorniers head while passing him. This forced S/Ldr Hess to break from attack to avoid hitting P/O Fechtners Hurricane. Dornier then escaped in clouds. Patrol then landed safely at Duxford.

D-1 : First Offensive Air Operations

F/Lt Sinclair interrupted his routine flight to intercept Do-17 hediang north towards Naval Base. Despite initial innaccuracies, he finished him off before reaching ships anchorage. Bombers defence was severe. Hurricane received 6 DP in a while.

Then Ju-88 appeared attacking from the south-east. F/Lt Sinclair had intercepted him from west. Having been approaching too fast he colided and flew past him being hit hard with engine damaged.
Ju-88 bombed HMS Prince of Wales. Scored near miss and caused small damage on the Ship.
F/Lt Sinclair balancing on the edge of flyability of his crippled plane went on chasing Ju-88 in revenge of HMS Prince of Wales assault. Despite initial low expectations he finally got Ju-88 down (fired and exploeded) though barely reached landing at nearest airfield then. His Hurricane is nearly irreparable, being 82% damaged.
