Flying Tigers over Burma:

Peter's Burma game: Japanese army vs. Flying Tigers.

Using Peter's excellent planes and stands, each Japanese controled a fighter (Nate) and a bomber (Sally). The bombers had a slower movement card, and a limited set on moves (straight, stall and side slip). Also, pilot wounds had you plot a 3 card sequence
making the advanced rule for this less cumbersome for convention play.

Here's the Japanese setup

270653

270654

Here's Glenn (Jago85) and Dave (Caveman) killing time while waiting to kill bombers.
270655

American setup: Each american player had a p-40.

270656

In the opening moves, a Nate tries to hold off a P-40:

270657

And gets smoked! (house rule: all smoke chits drawn against Japanese fighters are a fire chit!)

270658

I manage to deftly maneuver myself into a shot...just not mine!

270659

Thankfully, P-40s are faster than Nates

270660

And the wolves start to chase down the elks.

270661

Not without some opposition, mind you.

270662

An air pirate maneuvers into close ranged shot.

270663

And I start to smoke

270664

Bob makes his approach on another smoker

270665

And gets shot down.

270666

Dave gets a kill

270667

But then his wingman takes the return fire

270668

Dave running in front of my smoker

270685

And I gun him down

270670

Glenn scores a kill!

270671

Phillip lines up his shot

270672

Almost there

270673

Nails the rear gunner

270674

Meanwhile, the Nates and a respawned Oscar guard the Sally's rear

270669

2 Sallys racing to get off

270675

Phillip closes to touching range

270676

And makes the kill!

270677

Bob, back from Valhalla, takes a long ranged stab at my Nate, and snuffs me out.

270678

270679

The Dave (back from the dead) takes down my Sally

270680

270681

Things start to get tangled

270682

And the end-game scrimmage occurs

270683

And Bob goes down again, while torching a Nate

Guadalcanal '42:
Another of Peter's games, we have 4 Bettys and 3 Zeros against 7 Wildcats. The Bettys are trying to bomb the air strip on the coast.

270686

270687

270688

270689

We start mixing it up a bit

270690

And I get a shot in, and (IIRC) Bob gets another wound this Origins

270691

270692

Phillip doesn't like those chits.

270693

And I take some hits, including engine damage

270694

My target Betty starts to smoke

270695

Bob closes in, nursing his wound

270696

And starts his Betty smoking

270697

Near collision while trying to get the smoking Betty

270698

And this one is now in on fire too

270699

Bit of a bad plot (Peter's HR for pilot wound has you plot 3 cards rather than 2. Very playable, esp. in a con setting)
But he gets a shot anyway

270700

Fire and smoke are not stopping this pilot

270701

Deborah nails the first Betty

270702

2nd Betty down, but so is a 'Cat

270703

2 Bettys still closing on the airfield

270704

He's almost there!

270706

Last desperate try to save our home!

270705

Meanwhile, against all the Zeros, Bob goes down

270707

The first Betty drops; no where to land now!

270708

And follows his load down!

270709

The second load of bombs go in as the Betty, again, is shot down too late; meanwhile, I get a wound to go with a damaged engine.
Not a good combo of hits!

270710

But then. Bryan shoots me down, and I'm put out of my misery!

270711

270713

A bit later, I go after a respawned Betty with my respawned Wildcat.

270712

Getting a shot in through Bob.

270714

And Bob takes the cannon shot for me, and goes down again!

270715

Ahhh......Zero-San, are we at the same altitude? OOPS!

270716

And as the Betty frantically dodges the Zero, a bomb comes loose, and a bad fuse arms, and......BOOM!

Bombing the Reich. Maximum Effort:

One of Phillip's Games. Since it was a late game (by my standards, past bedtime), I didn't take notes, so things might be a bit sparse.

The German right flank: note Phillip's purple squadron. Very nice. I'm flying my favorate, Shaffer's D.VII

270718

Bombers and escorts

270719

And I mispick my card, and sail to the edge

270720

The left flankers start to mix it up with the escorts

270721

Who seem to have forgotten about the right flank. Our good fortune!

270722

The right flank closes in, while I move to cut them off at the pass

270723

And Peter give the bomber the BOOM! (15 hits)

270737

Then another BOOM!

270724

Just out of arc, Dang!

270725

And the first one goes down

270726

2 fokkers getting stomped on by the bomber.

270727

Trying to setup the shot

270728

Heck, that one is in front of me!

270729

Like wolves after elk!

270730

And a gun jam!

270731

All lined up, and no way to shoot!

270732

My mates get the HP off my back.

270733

Going for the last one, as it races for the edge.

270734

And another one starts down

270735

The third one goes down, Peter again, I think.

270736

At this point, I called it a night, and went to the hotel and bed.

WWI Late War Furball:

Ok, a simple premise, kill the other side ;)
D.VIIs and SS S.IVs vs, Se-5as and Snipes. I with my fav again, Schaffer.

Starting gun goes off, and.........Ummm... where did my mates go? 3 to one odds!

270835

Slipped through that one!

270836

And a quick reversal to catch them, maybe.

270837

And they scatter away.

270838

But here comes help (Peter in an SS D.IV), while my wingman, Charcoal, looks on.

270839

And the Peter gets hit.

270840

And again!

270841

OK, 2 vs. 3; we can do this

270842

And Phillip goes down with a bang!

270843

And Bob's flaming while my mate is smoking (I keep telling him that's bad for your health!)

270844

Tight furball indeed!

270845

Bob and Barry collide! But survive

270846

I line up on Phillip again

270847

While Peter and Bob circle us.

270848

Air circus maneuvering!

270849

And Barry returns to hit me in the tail (Not sure who Bob is shooting at)

270850

And Bob planes burns down with jammed guns

270851

Phillip and I jousting again

270852

More furballing

270853

Now jousting with Barry; throwing beer bottles at him as we pass!

270854

Reversing into a shot; Barry shooting through Peter

270855

And Barry makes the kill!

WWII: Mitchell Hunters:
CappyTom's game over at the Buckeye Gamer's table.
Action over the SW Pacific; a bomber box of B-25s with P-40 escort against Zeros
Some house rules to get used to, including climbing and diving maneuvers. This involves plotting your speed token
with one that indicates a dive (fast maneuver) or a climb (slow maneuver) (red spot on the chit). These are considered to be
difficult maneuvers <>, so can not be proceeded, followed or paired with a <>

Enemy in sight.

270857

Targets and their sheepdogs

270858

Closing in

270859

The bomber box

270860

Us against the escorts

270861

First holes in my Zero; just a scratch

270862

I break from the furball, and make for the box {https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whhAg6bA3_o}

270863

Let's see if my plan works

270864

Going in now

270865

Dang, only a scratch on him

270866

My mates start to swarm in

270867

That shot left a mark on him

270868

Going for the reversal

270869

Zeros zeros burning bright

270870

And I'm down, and the game ends.

Early American Action:

Ni.28s vs. Fokker D.VIIIs with a single Hannover CL.III in the mix. Interesting since the Ni.28s and the Fokker D,VIIIs have the same maneuver deck (F deck).

Air jousting: me against Bob again. Phillip (German) and Hugh (English) are behind

270874

And, some airshow maneuvers

270875

Staying paired up.

270876

Now we switch partners; hey a square dance!

270877

And I make Hugh go BOOM!

270878

Phillip and I escape from the trap.

270879

Phillip turns back to hold them off, while I clear a jam

270880

Phillip gets hammered; hey, where did the snipe come from.

270881
270882

But he gets through it.

270883

I swing back into action, as big brother comes to.

270884

The hannover (George) takes out Ed

270885

Phillip and Bob go for each other

270886

And Phillip goes down

270887

George in the hannover takes down Bob.

270888

A respawned Phillip jousts with Ken

270889

Then Ken slips past and takes out George.

270890

Then out of nowhere, I BOOM Hugh again!

270891

The hannover shoots into a real mess

270892

And takes him down

270893

A real furball over the city

270894

And I take down Ken

270895

Then Matt BOOMs me!

270896

I liked both AAR's thanks for posting. Where did the WWII planes, stands and pegs come from?

I liked both AAR's thanks for posting. Where did the WWII planes, stands and pegs come from?

The bases are Litko for the fighters and home made for the bombers. The elevation stands are extending magnet tools. They can be found on ebay. Some I got from a local automotive parts store.

Planes in Burma are all AIM but one P-40. Guadalcanal, all Wildcats and some Zeros are official releases,(some repaints) bombers are AIM.

Lots of great shots here, Karl!:sAprvd: Your coverage and details of the games is really nicely done - I, too, look forward to more as you have time to flesh out the other games.

All the best,
Matt

A most enjoyable set of games to view Karl, I agree with Matt. Especially as I don't get to see much Pacific action unless Neil does a WW2 game.
Well worth a bit of Rep, really for all three games, I should give rep for each one.

REP inbound.
:sAprvd:
Wish I could ‘rep’ them all.
I especially like the Guadalcanal mat. It looks 3D as if the land is placed on a plain mat.
:pint: And another for Peter :pint:

I know this is a thread about Origins...but, anyone going to GenCon this year? Are the Duke brothers going to be doing their WoG demos? They run some great conventions!
