hello again I have made a maneuver deck for the Messerschmitt 262 but here are some optional rules for them

they plan 3 cards instead of 1

they have a climb rate of 1

here is the deck list of the cards I have used (they are all Q deck maneuver cards that come with the hayate)

1/18x2
2/18
3/18x2
4/18
5/18x2
6/18
7/18x2
8/18
9/18x2
10/18
11/18x2
12/18x2
13/18x2
14/18x2
15/18x2
16/18x2
17/18x2
18/18x2

this is just what I have thought up please let me know if you see anything that could be improved or just what you think

cheers:drinks::thumbsup:

Good to see someone is thinking ahead. If they ever release a 262 that would be great. Ares could release a Japanese kikka and a Meteor as well for some really interesting games. This AAR is about those birds.

Esa,
How are you doing the distance in ground scale for maneuver cards per phase?

The Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate had a top speed of 363 mph (no cruise found). It flys the "Q" maneuver deck, which has a 6.35cm arrow length, and rated at the speed band of 358 mph (slow) and 387 mph (fast). So, a bit too fast for this plane, perhaps.

A North American P-51D Mustang cruised at 360 mph with a top speed of 440. This is reflected in its "P" maneuver deck, which has a 7.45cm arrow length, and rated at the speed band of 390 mph to 418 mph. Fast for cruise, and slow for top speed.

An Me.262 Schwalbe had a top speed of 560 mph (I can't find a cruise speed, but less than 560, surely). How does that translate into selecting three maneuver cards a phase? I am roughly estimating that the arrow length for the WWII Wings of Glory ground scale at 12.4cm, to give a speed band of 560 mph. The slow speed would be less than this.

So, not three "Q" cards per phase. Two would be a bit too long, but not much. And that is two cards, arrow on arrow, then place the stand. Don't place a card, then the stand, twice, as that would add an extra 6.8cm speed to the move.

PS: With thought, you could plan a single card per move. Then, when making the move, add a straight card before the planned maneuver card. That would ensure that the Me.262 didn't out-turn slower planes, which it shouldn't be able to do. This won't be accurate, but until we get a very fast (large) maneuver deck, it might work.

PPS: The "P" deck is actually close for the de Havilland Mosquito's speeds. Hmmm... The Heavy Fighter base is too big, and adds extra speed. More calculating needed...

Mike;
My brain may not be working right at this hour, but I believe the HF base is the same depth as the F base, 6.7cm. The bomber base is 8cm.

ESA: the math (trust me) has the high speed straight for a Me.262 at 12.8cm. The Q deck is 6.6cm. So 2 straights will give you too much speed.

No problem. It's been a difficult project here for a few years. The early jets are cool, and there's a demand to fly them in games.
The problems include the fact that when they are flying fast, they are almost impossible to catch. Plus they have a hard time hitting anything at speed
(German jets; Meteors and P-80s should do better with 20mm cannon and 50 cal MGs).

On the other hand, if you have them taking off or landing, they are sitting ducks, and it becomes a game of jet killers vs. jet protectors. Kind of like escorting bombers.
And the fact we have no real data to base new decks for them.
But I'm working on it.

If you don't mind printing out your own R deck PM me your email address and I can send you a scan.

If Ares ever get around to producing Me 262m models, do you think that they will go for larger cards, a two card system or folding cards (so that they fit inside the box)?

I'll have to look at the cards used by Sven/Andy. I have a one card solution. Karl, we'll have to talk.

Nice Karl.

No possibility to stall or flame out an engine when accelerating?

Nice Karl.

No possibility to stall or flame out an engine when accelerating?

I was assuming skilled pilots. Also, the later me-262s had a throttle control to inhibit the pilot from doing so.
As with any game, more chrome/dirt/detail can be added. The chance for the Mk 108s jamming when firing during higher-G maneuvers, for example.
One must balance their own desired level of add-ons and playability.
And what the game engine can accept. At some level, we might as well chuck WGS out and get hex bases, and play Check Your 6.
Further along, Fighting Wings.
We like WoG for it's simplicity and playability. A big reason I chose the 1 deck solution.

Another attempt to get something workable for jets?
