I am trying to find out the role or roles of the Rolland CII. It is officialy listed as a fighter-escort, but the 1/76 Airfix model had small bombs on the model. It one right in assuming that it was a maid of all work, fighter, recce and bomber?

It was primarily a recce aircraft, but when it first came out it was superior to the opposition, therefore it was also used as an escort. A one seat version was produced to build on this (DII) but it was not a success.

The CII only had a short period of ascendency.

Hope this helps.

Many Italian and Austrian recon planes had bomb racks and brought bombs if needed. Even British fighter as the Camel, the Snipe and the Se5a could bring four Cooper bombs.

In the case of the Roland, as far as I know it could bring 50 kg of bombs (four 12,5 kg bombs).

Many thanks George & Andrea. That gives me an idea of the missions I can use the plane for, as I said since I made the Airfix models it has alway been a favourate of mine.:

;)
I still have a roughly painted Airfix Roland, with the Whale face... ;) It comes from my teenager era of modelling and I love it too!
I don't remember it having bombs, but maybe I just lost them. It was just an easy Series 1 kit, meaning few parts and not so much detail...

In the game Richthofen's Roland C.II cannot shoot forward. Obviously this will have a historical reason that I was not able to find out. Can anybody tell me something about this?

It's quite simple Andre, the earlier aircraft didn't have a forward firing gun, this was added later.
