Here an article on "Gioconomicon":

http://www.gioconomicon.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=5664

It is in Italian, but the words "Galleria fotografica" on line 6 go to a rich photogallery of 45 pictures.

All the best!

Thanks for that Andrea... stunning!

What really took my breath away was the boxart for "Rain of Destruction" - that's a whole new level of artistry compared to previous boxes. Is it the same artist?

The bombers look great (with the added bonus that they'll be far lighter than the metal kits) and the early war fighters will be great additions to the range, particularly after the DH2s myself. Cheers, Andrea.

OK. So common sense says ... 1) I have just managed to smuggle all of Series IV in without my wife murdering me so I can 2) buy the Deluxe Edition when it arrives, hopefully not too soon, and 3) wait patiently for Series V and then 4) the Bombers through 2011 & 2012 spreading my spending like a sensible person in this era of financial constraint.

Hang on ... no I can't! I want these, and I want them now!!!

I would imagine that they would be priced between a 2 seater and a balloon, but much closer to the 2 seater...so, I'm hoping they'd come in around US$20. each. That would be affordable. The Series IV came in at US$13. each...no price difference between single seaters and 2 seaters...so there's a chance they could even come in at a few bucks less than US$20...that would be even better!

Um...did you skip series 3 and 4? :D I believe that "waiting" is what makes us all stick together here...we wouldn't have anything to grumble about if the darned planes came out at a reasonably paced, on time schedule...and of course included every plane every one wants!

Plane like B-17 ?

Sounds like 2-engine birds only at this point.

*dreaming of a "WoW WWII: Giants" set with an Me264 Amerikabomber, G10N1 Fugaku and XB-36... and maybe a "Weird Wings" set with the Horten and Northrop flying-wings, and assorted other Projects & Prototypes*

I didn't say anything beyond "dream", did I?LOL We gotta get past the industry as a whole's resistance to 4-engine types first... and I'd like to see the B-17 and B-24 escort-gunship conversions too, along with the inline-reengined B-17 testbed. (Sadly, while the latter showed great potential to improve over "standard", it was destroyed in a hangar fire before any usable data could be gathered. I've long thought the re-engine and up-gun should've been tried together...)

That is not the only similarity with the Great War that I have noticed from Nexus. The way the rumour of new planes that do not arrive at the front for when they have been promised, and then the supply running out before demand is satisfied, also rings a bell. The only difference to the Great war that I can see is that the Americans get theirs first instead of having to wait for them.:)

Although I'm still working on completing my aquisition of all of the first 4 series, I am just feeling woozy (probably just altitude sickness) at the anticipation of the Series IV set and, especially, the BOMBERS! I can not wait until they are out. Then future bombers released like the H-P 0/400, Friedrickshaven or Staaken, perhaps a Caudron G or R series. Heck, as long as I'm just a wishin' why not ask for a Russian Miromets 4 engine bomber.

Andrea, you've got a fabulous game here!

wargamer
04-08-2011, 14:43
What IS the official release date?

"this year" so it could be anytime this year, or since they didn't say 2011, any year hereafter.

Have faith, maybe someone at the distributer will gain some sense and get things out in a more timely manner. As unlikely as that seems.

Some time before the end of this year is the best guess. You will find that release dates as given by Nexus are a movable feast, explained away by such factors as, a Volcanic erruption in Iceland, ship lost at sea, cardboard shortage at the printers, et al. Quite a suprise to anyone who is new to the game, and is used to the normal way of manufacture. Supply and demand is another interesting topic which we have debated ad nausiam on this drome with no effect on the surreal world that is the Nexus. By jove I feel better now I've said that.

Interesting colour scheme on the Gotha! I've seen a reproduced photo of a Kagohl 3 line-up, with 670/16 as the only light-coloured aircraft while all the others visible (8 by my count) have dark camouflaged night schemes. While lozenge wing fabric is discernible on some of the dark machines, from the angle of the shot and quality of the repro it's difficult to tell whether 670/16 has 'sky' or lozenge fabric covered wings, but an accompanying artist's colour plate shows lozenge, so happy to go with that.

The real problem for this schizophrenic Gotha is that 670/16 is a Gotha G.V, and the model shown is, by the depth of the engine nacelles which extend down onto the lower wing and the simplified tail bracing strut, very obviously a Gotha G.IV. Still, I'm looking forward to the (eventual) release, and will just have to get out the paintbrush!

I saw these on BGG earlier. Very nice looking.

I'm not sure why, but I just can't get as excited for these bombers. I don't own FotG, so I am not sure how much they add to the game. I admit I could be missing out here.

I am much more anxious for the series 5 WWI and series 3 WWII minis.
The series 5 especially will be exciting as I can finally get a campaign going from earliest war to late.

Bomber pics have been posted at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wow_nexus/photos/album/2001105960/pic/list?prop=eupdate and they look pretty good!

As you correctly say later, the album can be seen only by people that subscribed and are logged to the WoW Yahoo Discussion Group.
There is also a second album for WW2 bombers:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wow_nexus/photos/album/1051993157/pic/list
Most of the pictures (but not all the 8 color schemes) are actually on BGG too.

Interesting colour scheme on the Gotha! I've seen a reproduced photo of a Kagohl 3 line-up, with 670/16 as the only light-coloured aircraft while all the others visible (8 by my count) have dark camouflaged night schemes. I can not help with the version details. Anyway I can say that Nexus is always looking for very different color schemes for the planes released, both for game purposes (as game "tokens" the planes are better recognized by the players) and because similar color schemes that the enthusiasts want can be more easily obtained with some repaint. This is why the clear G.V has been included. But the other is quite obvuously dark night camouflaged. The picture is in the album above, anyway here you have it:

http://xa.yimg.com/kq/groups/12936476/sn/1626770085/name/WOW157B+Right+Side+View.jpg

Baldrick62
06-10-2011, 14:12
Andrea,
Thanks; I realise that your involvement is as the game designer (more power to your elbow) rather than anything to do with what are, from a commercial point of view, 'game tokens', and I accept the visual appeal of strikingly coloured and different looking game tokens to attract sales. I'm just a little disappointed on Nexus' part that they have compromised so much on historical accuracy. Gotha 'KZ' 947/16 is like 670/16 a G.V, so labelling is correct, but the model itself is actually a Gotha G.IV.
Not that I won't be buying, just that I'll be repainting!

Doug
06-10-2011, 23:07
The DoW series looks ready for release are they in production now?

Angiolillo
06-10-2011, 23:52
DoW Series 3 has been already produced, for the rest the process is going on.

What I meant is that I am quite involved in the choice of versions and color schemes and such, but not in the modelling - so I choosed as by guidelines two very different G.Vs, but if details of the G.IV have been modelled instead I can not help that.

 G'day Chaps!
here is one of the darker lozenge camo Gotha that Angiollio posted on the Aerodrome Forum.

Signor A., were the two Gothas based on the Korth and Aschoff cards in Flight of the Giants, or two all-new versions? Also, are the French and Italian Capronis and the He111s and B-25s all units with cards in the box-sets, or completely new?

I must say that I'm waiting with baited breath. Why does it always take so long???:guns::crash::fokker: Okie

Steve old chap, you have just asked the Million Dollar question. We have been debating that one for years without getting an answer.:deadhorse::brickwal: I have given up on that one:surrender: and gone on to easier conundrums such as," How long is a piece of string".

Yes it is, and a better price than I was expecting. Now where can we place a pre order here in Dear old Blighty?
Got to get my Christmas pressies in the pipeline even if Santa is going to be a bit late delivering. Still what can you expect. There is a war on you know.

I just saw that FRP games is taking preorders for the WWI bombers.

A couple of days ago I got an email from FRP saying that they had problems with filling my pre-order (from August), for the WWII series and were refunding my money. They didn't elaborate as to what the problems were. So I hope you guys get your bombers okay.

This was posted by Andrea for Yahoo Groups today

In Nervesa della battaglia, on the shores of the Piave river where Italians and Austrains fought for years, and just downhill from the Montello where our Ace of Aces Francesco Baracca was found after being shot down, Mr. Zanardo is building a flying Caproni Ca.3, to be added to his collection ranging from a replica Dr.I to Baracca's SPAD XIII:

More on Youtube:

This is not a real new, his work has bein going on for long and it has not come to the end yet.

But it is a nice introduction to tell that several thousands of chilometres east of there, the production of WGF Capronis and Gothas is almost finished. A few more weeks for packaging and shipping and they will be released. 4 of them, the ones illustrated there

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/images/thing/108842/wings-of-glory-ww1-bombers-rules-pack

sold in individual packages with their base, maneuvre cards, management card, plane card, counters and essential rules.

This is just a little insight for you. Precise released date and data will surely come at due point from Ares.

All the best,

Andrea

The building of a giant like that is awe inspiring. The largest project that I ever took part in was building a sail boat, and that was what seemed like a big project at the time.
Thanks for the heads up on this one Don.

Can anyone give an update on whatever became of the beautiful early war planes that were due to be released? Is Ares going to make them? Are others beyond that planned? I IRC Tripes and Hanriots were series 6 planes... what were the German planes?

I need to shoot Bill a note, but so far 12-7, Min Market and CSI don't even have the Starter that I've seen--and MM still has the 4 in the Starter listed as singles like they were originally planned.

The original list wae as follows Tim. :-

Series 5. Morane Sauliner N. Fokker E3. Airco DH2. Halberstadt DIII.

Series 6. Sopwith Triplane. Aviatik DI. Hanriot HDI. Siemans Schukert DIII.

Series 7. F2B Bristol Fighter. CI. II over which some confusion, and no other named machines.

Thank you Rob,

Is Ares planing to make any of these planes? Are there going to be new decks? What is a GCI?

Thank you Rob,

No one knows the answer to your first question Tim. Decks are already available in the Blister packs for these aircraft. GCI is my bad typing. I have amended it, but as I said in my post, no one is quite sure.

I would be willing to bet that we still will see those planes come out as minis. The order could be mixed up a bit though.

I hope series 5/6 planes get released too, since I still lack that official Aviatik Berg D.I miniature.

GCI is my bad typing.

I beg to differ. GCI stands for Ground Control Intercept, and it is a force multiplier that the foundation of Command and Control (C2). C2 allows airpower to become the truly focused and terrible weapon envisioned by Douhet and Mitchell (among others). GCI was first effectively used at the Battle of Britain, and continues in today as Ground Tactical Air Control System units, or Airborne Early Warning units.

But that's probably for another thread. I'm excited about any new minis! It's been too long.
