View Full Version : Prague Epiphany - The WW2 Solo Decks

After playing several games with the Diceless Solo Chart for WW2 one thing kept annoying me: The time I had to take to choose the maneuvers, randomize them, take one and then set the speed.

Another issue was that I couldn't find a good way to use the altitude rules with the chart.

Then.

Epiphany.

So I devised a good way to add everything together and add a bonus: the general direction of travel of the target plane. 90º forward, 90º left/right and 90º back. All this regarding the flying direction of the AI plane.

There are 3 decks.
First one regarding planes 1 or less rulers away from the AI plane (36 cards).
Second one regarding planes between 1 and 2 rulers away from the AI plane (36 cards).
Third one regarding planes 2 or more rulers away from the AI plane (24 cards).

The cards themselves rules if the player's plane is approaching or moving away from the AI plane.

The quality of the pilots is still ruled by almost the same set of ideas.

Below the decks.
Any thing unclear please do ask.

Mike: Visually the cards are a bit ugly. Feel free to edit them the way you want it.

Thanks Steve.
The idea was formed in my head.
I couldn't stop until it was outside it.

Nice work, I'm glad to see you also got on some sort of relative heading system :)
I have to say that the resolution of the picture and the handwriting make for a tough read.
If it's not too much trouble can you type what is explained on the first page?

Rep well deserved ;)

Thanks Daan.
I will do it in the next post.
Thanks for the REP.

From the first page explaining the rules:

Order of Actions:

1) Check distance between planes. Choose deck.

2) Take cards from deck until you find the right placement of target plane.

3) See direction of flight of the target plane. The aspect is related to the flight direction of the AI plane.

4) If there is only one maneuver to make, play that maneuver. For special maneuvers go to 7, 8 and 9.

5) Shuffle the same deck and draw for speed.

6) If you are playing with altitude check altitude every time the AI plane maneuver is a Straight or a Stall. See altitude rules.

7) If there are more than one maneuver, place all maneuvers near the AI plane and play them consecutively in the next turns. Check for automated maneuvers once all those maneuvers are played. Check point 5.

8) If the maneuver has a white dot shuffle the same deck and check for special maneuvers. If a card with the symbol of a special maneuver is drawn use the maneuver(s) in the yellow rectangle. Check 5 and 6.

9) If there is a maneuver with a black dot the plane will use this maneuver if it exists in its specific deck. If not, check the deck for a special maneuver. If a special maneuver symbol is drawn use the maneuver(s) in the yellow rectangle. If not, use the best maneuver similar to the initial maneuver. Check 5 and 6.

Altitude Rules

If altitude rules are being used, any time a AI plane is given a Straight or Stall maneuver check the same deck for altitude changes:

Horizontal Arrow (Green) - Keep the same altitude.

Straight Arrow Up (Red) - Go up an altitude counter.

Straight Arrow Down (Blue) - Go down an altitude peg.

Round Arrow Up - Go up an altitude counter if the nearest enemy is above or if the majority of enemy planes are above and no plane is within one ruler of the AI plane.

Round Arrow down - Go down an altitude peg if the nearest enemy is below or if the majority of enemy planes are below and no plane is within one ruler of the AI plane.

First Draft, based on what I could read off the images above:

195543

The speed arrow is wrong, along with a few alignment issues, and there are details missing.

These are already amazing!
You're right!
I'm going to upload better copies.

I have made a set of your cards Joaquim and will try them out soon. Have to go over and re-write your instructions so I can understand them. Very interesting!

Let me know your feelings and critics when you play with them.
Your opinion is always important.

Quim, you definitely deserve a creativity :medal:!
Great things you do there for the community.
What I told Paul in Prague is I left solo gaming totally. Being blessed with opponents/neighbors around there is no need to play solo anymore. Just returned from work and my wife has told me my daughter's school friend had been here asking for a game! Men, if I only have time for the others!

Not to mention my wife and daughter dragging me to play euros like Ticket to Ride India last days...:)

You are lucky!
But although I enjoy much more playing with fellow players and friends I also like to play alone very much.

The decks are now uploaded in high resolution, Mike.

About your cards:

The speed arrows in bottom right should be white and short for low speed and blue and long for high speed (or you might have a better idea, Mike.)

The top right arrow for the player's plane should be down and not up.
Can you super-impose the circle with the 90º triangle over the arrows? I think that it would make the image a bit more powerful.

Can you make the wings of the plane in the back of the card go up to the edge of the card? It would be awesome and give a sense of proximity.

All else is perfect! :sAprvd:

Sorry about the delay. I just opened the Illustrator file again, yesterday to start working on this again. Too many distractions, and there is a bit of work to get this formatted. I was procrastinating. Bad Mikey.
