Have I missed something in the rules?
I am using the older Wings of War rulebook but have just received in the mail a Wings of Glory Airco DH.4
I am confused by its firepower deck. It reads AB/B.
I guess the front gun uses the A deck and the rear uses the B deck.
However if that were the case why doesn't it just say A/B
What have I missed?

Daniel,
In this particular plane's case, the configuration presented is a triple gunned front mount. I believe that when firing to the front, the victim draws an "A" and a "B" damage card for each long-ranged shot, and two each for short-ranged shots.

However, you might check this thread out, where it was discussed before: Airco DH.4 - Cotton & Betts (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?21659-Airco-DH-4-Cotton-Betts&p=339318&viewfull=1#post339318)

Mike is spot on with his analysis.
This particular model is up gunned. You will find other configurations too, such as B/B and B/A where the rear gun is double mounted.

welcome to the drome Daniel:thumbsup:!!!!
yes this is a powerful plane. after seeing pics of it our group uses a house rule for it. it had 2 lewis guns mounted on the upper wing for zeppelin interception. they were mounted so as to be unreachable for the pilot and extremely difficult for the observer to reach (ie would involve climbing out of the fuselage, in flight!). so if an A damage jam is drawn the duel lewis guns jam and remain so for the rest of the scenario. the b gun is as per normal.

I just played two games with the Airco chasing down a Gotha G.V.
It actually seemed pretty balanced.
I won one game by shooting the pilot of the Gotha twice and lost the other one by having no rudder control (left or right) after doing 21 damage to the Gotha.

Hi Daniel, welcome to the Aerodrome!

Mike ("OldGuy59") is referring to the Report for Duty sub-forum of the Off Duty forum... new members will usually be directed there to post a new thread in which they introduce themselves to the members. It's one way to connect with other members as it cues them into the fact that you've just arrived.

This is a great group... a great resource, and a supportive community. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

There's no doubt about it... the DH.4 was a beast. Fast, well-armed, and able to carry a respectable bomb-load. The Allies would often send them on daylight raids without "escorts" (in the WWII sense of the word) as the scouts couldn't catch up to the DH.4s if they spent any time tangling with enemy scouts.

Welcome to the 'drome Daniel - you may find more info here on that particular kite:
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?21659-Airco-DH-4-Cotton-Betts

As you can see the real one had Lewis guns mounted on the top plane whereas the model doesn't - though if you look really close at the card you might just make them out on that !

Welcome to the 'Drome Daniel. Happy flying. My son, skipper, flies the DH4 but not in this configuration he flies the B/A. He gets me every time.

Bit of a stretch to change those drums Dave.

Blimey I need that DH.4 it has as many guns as my night fighter Bristol.

PS. The American DH.4 is quite tasty as well with it's A/A configuration

...Bit of a stretch to change those drums Dave.

I don't think they could Neil - 2 lots of 97 and the jobs done - the intention in this config was anti-zep so likely loaded with Buckingham rounds or similar to have a go at them

Yep, definitely not reloading those - like the wing guns on 87's Dolphins, those are one pan of ammo per gun and you're done.
