Last night, we played out a scenario inspired by the fighting in the air in September of 1918. (click here for historical background: http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2259 )

We had SE5a's flying against Fokker DVIIs with a 3:2 ration in favor of the SE5a's

The end result, 4x Fokker's went down (two suffering catastrophic hits) while we lost only two of the SE5a.s One from accumulation of enemy hits, and the second finally succumbed to damage from a fire.

While the Fokker's enjoyed a much tighter turn radius, some how the SE5a's proved to either have been better piloted, or (more likely) just had better luck!

It was interesting to see how the newly released SE5a's would fly against such a highly respected aircraft as the DVII's.

It would have been interesting to see how things would have panned out if the catastrophic hits hadn't happened. Take that element out and you have two of each downed by traditional damage. Man, I can't wait for our SE5's to arrive!! They should be here in a few days and the second they arrive Hunter and I will set up a multi-plane dogfight to test them out!! :D

Look in the WWI area, under Historical Discussions, the thread is tiled:

Sounds like a fun fight, well worth repeating to see what happens in the rematch!

I was wondering how early in the game the catastrophic hits took the two planes out as if it was early on I can see it would have a major impact and had they suffered much damage if any before blowing up?

One went out early, and the other later into an ongoing fight.
