AFTER ACTION REPORT:
Sunday, Feb. 8, 1945

Had an awesome time at Bradley’s Sunday afternoon.

We were playing a classic cut-throat round. Choose any 2 airplanes… Last man standing.

I said one thing, at the beginning… “You do not want to be in front of a Beaufighter” ….remember that.

157067
Posturing as the match started. (Brad, Kevin, Isaiah)

157068
Brad performs the first loop in Wings of Glory history…. Tries to catch my Focke Wulfs… They cut hard right and climb to avoid.

157069
Kevin brings his Spit Mk IX to bear on Isaiah’s P-51s.

157070
And loses! (Kevin draws an explosion chip!)

157071
Focke-Wulfs – Oh ya….. Mangler takes last licks on Brad’s Beau. And Bruner spanks Isaiah’s 51….

After Kevin and Isaiah toe off and destroy each other, it was my turn to burn…

157066
Brad’s Beau, in a brilliant maneuver pulls an immelmann and chews up what was left of Mangler, and then has Bruner for desert as he passes “in front of the Beaufighter”.

Uber fun. Ran about 1.5 hours (quick).

We played with Pitch Chips, meaning you could climb and dive every turn, during any maneuver. It was in the words of Brad “Freeing” “Like flying and airplane”.
It really added a lot to the play, and altitude become an integral element and fluid.

I strongly recommend adding Pitch to your play. (Thanks to Claudio for introducing me to the concept)

New altimeters worked well, too.

Awesome afternoon. Thanks Brad for hosting. Chili was good!

Cannot wait for “Raid on Bremmen” coming March 14.

A very succinct but entertaining and informative AAR Joe.
Can't understand why none of the other chaps have caught it.

Thanks so much for your kind reply. I am really enjoying the banter this go around. Bro Chris is a purist who loves complexity. I, on the other hand love house rules and simplicity. I hope others try flying with one card planning and pitch.

Now get this... Chris says to me yesterday morn, that there is a desperity in the damage the bomber guns inflict. I agree, and actually have been reading a thread discussing the mennacing Bristol Beaufighter. Over-powered?

I see this as a great way to come together on plan to make the damage consistent. The idea is to consider each barrel when determining how many damage chips to draw. Stay tuned to a revised Fast Rule play book.

March 14 - Raid on Bremmen
Gonna be a hoot. Already a lot of "investment" (friends and my- self) in B-17s and P-51s. My Focke Wulfs might have their hands full with those fortresses.

Thanks again,
Joe

 Dont know how I missed this one as well.
Great concept for a quick fun game.

Having 2 Beaufighters we use in Pacific war campaigns I know just how deadly they can be especially the one with the rear gun.:cheezy::guns:

Limit the ammo for the Beau's cannons. A very good read of an excellent, well thought out and very quick game. Must look further into pitch.

"Hey, Joe, where you going with that Beaufighter in your hand?" (strumming guitar)
The pictures are food for me. Thanks for posting . The fire made of printed card is a new one for me. What good idea! I am surprised at all the variations that are possible! I have no excuse not to start making my own, but I'll probably paint 3D nylon wool ones, having found some 20-year-old and unused nylon air pump filter for a fish tank down in the cellar. I knew it would come in handy one day.....
