Tonight A B17 followed by a lone Spitfire IX ran into a little trouble. The newly promoted B17 pilot with a rookie Spitfire pilot ran into a 2 ace pilots in a neatly painted pair of german 190's and a pair of ki84's. The Aces from Japan were on lone showing some new methods for killing slow bombers to the German Aces. The Ki 84s saw the B17 first. The 190's followed the Ki 84s in for a frontal attack. No one saw the lone Spitfire sneaking in for the far east under the cover of clouds. The Ki84's and 1 of the 190's drew first blood. 3 long hits followed by 3 close ones. Almost 40 points of damage in only 2 turns! The B17 gives it out as well. As the 3 planes went passed the bomber 1 of the Ki 84's was seen smoking. The 190 seemed to be fighting a stuck rudder. At that very moment the Spitfire got his shot on the 2nd 190. Receiving 11 points damage and having the pilot roughed up made the 190 struggle to stay in the fight. The rear guns struck again at the fighters. The fire coming from the rear of the B17 was unholy in the amount of damage it gave out. The fighters , though heavily damaged shredded the bomber. Engine damage, pilot wounded and rudder damage totaling more than 60 points. The bomber fell out of the sky! No survivors were seen but the cloud cover was heavy. At the sight of the B17 going down the rookie Spitfire pilot turned for home. Good luck Captain Max. May you find your way home.

Hi Paul! I'd like to add my welcome to those of Rob and Andrzej. :)

Thank you for the After Action Report (AAR)... glad to see you were able to get a game in. Although certainly not required, Andrzej makes a good point... we're a visual bunch. ;) If you check out some of the other AAR forums, you can find outstanding examples others have posted, both with and without photos. Here are a couple of links, if necessary:

Regardless, please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, this is a friendly, helpful, and active bunch.

68 points of damage in 3 rounds of fire. A broken rudder. Two engine damage cards. A crew shot. It may look like those new bombers are hard to kill, but the late era planes can really pile on the hits.

I have to rethink my view on bombers. I used to think that just putting your head down and flying straight ahead toward the target was best, and it may still be for early war bombers, but these fortresses should probably maneuver a bit to open up more shots for their numerous gunners.

Bienvenue Paul from Brittany France. I intend to take my B17 for a spin this weekend against a couple of 190s. Wish me luck.
