History:
The British Expeditionary Force (BEF) arrived in France and moved into Belgium ill prepared for the German onslaught they were to face. At Mons the BEF meets the German 1st Army under von Kluck.

The British force is deployed in a defensive position along the Mons-Conde Canal with the French 5th Army to their right. The German forces attempt to encircle the much smaller British army…

The situation:
This is a reconnaissance mission; you are to identify troop movements and/or artillery positions. If your map has a river on it deploy five trench cards – three with A-card AA capability – to represent the BEF; otherwise deploy the cards in a line roughly along the middle of the map. For the German forces randomly place ten cards – six will have A-card AA capability two of which will also represent cavalry – on the map with one group of five facing off against the BEF and the second set in a column preparing a flanking maneuver.

Objective:
If flying a unarmed German aircraft your objective is to find the two non-AA cards – the weak points in the British line – and then exit your side of the map.

If flying an unarmed Entente aircraft your objective is to find the two cavalry cards – these units are spearheading the encirclement – and then exit your side of the map.

If you get shot down or are forced to retreat due to excessive damage before completing the mission you lose. Winner is the side that completes their objective first.

Setup:
The map below gives a rough setup. The British and German lines are two rulers apart. The second German line is one ruler behind the first. The distance between friendly units is one ruler.

Your respective aircraft start anywhere on your side of the line.
