After Action Report for 2010-09-03:
The London Times reports:
Again today a German squadron of JU-88's raided the Home Chain Radar network near Dover.
The volunteer mixed RAF squadron was dispatched to intercept this raid with outstanding results,
the raid was turned back before reaching its target.
RAF After Action Report:
The RAF 213 Volunteer Composite squadron with great results by not allowing a single bomber
to penetrate to the coast. The bomber squadron was only escorted by an ME-110 and one ME-109.
Fighter control reported that a large number of unknown types of German fighters were unable to
rendevous with the bombers which led to their almost total destruction.
Enemy losses were 18 JU-88, four JU-87 and one ME-109.
Friendly losses was only a single Hurricane.
Bomber Command should take notice that unescorted bombers and not able to withstand a
concentrated fighter attack.
The following pilots are mentioned in dispatches:
Peter Peckerhead got 4 and 1/2 kills making him the first Ace of the squadron with a total of 6 1/2 ,
Yorkshire Pudding was successful this sortie and got 3 kills.
Drace Boom (AKA Matthew Owens) got 2 kills,
Willly "Wildman" Willams got one and 1/2 kills,
Jeff Frothingcrotch scorced his first 2 kills during this engagement,
Earl "The Chief" Eagle scored another 1 kill,
Willly "Wildman" Willams got one and 1/2 kills,
MIckey Rourke was successful with his first kill of the war,
Draco Seal was shot down, but he was recovered by Air-Sea Rescue,
his royal highness"Prince Philip" was unable to attend this sortie since he had a prior
social engagement.
Luftwaffe After Action Report:
A squadron of 18 JU-88's on a mission to bomb an enemy radar station near Dover were heavily engaged
by a mixture of British aircraft with medium losses from the engagement. Exact numbers are not available
at this time since the returning bombers diverted to several different airfields. A single ME-110 and a ME-109
were able to escort the bombers, but the escorting squadron of fighters assigned were unable to effect a
rendevous with the bombers.
Damage to the Dover radar station is unknown at this time, but it is believe that major damage was caused.
.
"Mad" Max Kopffreiheit destroyed a single Hurricane which attempted to dogfight and found out
how much it hurts to be in front of an ME-110..
AIr Intelligence Report:
Max Kopffreiheit report that several new types of fighters were engaged during this sortie.
It is believed that these aircraft were of American design and believed to be a P-38, P-39, and P-40 types.
These new types did not attempt to engage his ME-110.
Wings of War Technical Note:
During this scenario, we used a "box" for 18 JU-88's printed on a 22" by 28" posted to denote the bomber
group which worked out rather well. The bombers were in three columns with the bombers stepped up
1/6 of a level for each bomber from the front to back and out either side. This system worked very well
for combat purposes. The only drawback was that we had to physically lift any fighter model that was
actually within either above or below the box in order to move the bombers. Next time we will have a
sheet of plexiglass over the bomber box so that the box can be moved without holding the fighters.
