Good job Rich. Some day I have to sit down and put the decals on the 30 planes I have build.

I need to top coat and install the canopies on the other two P-47`s. They went together quickly. The parts tree is molded in a very nice almost a US Neutral Gray color. That makes gluing of the tail wheel door and main landing gear doors go so easy. I swear by Tamiya liquid it makes assembly oh so easy. Most plastic glues cause the paint to smear or bleed on the F-Toys planes. That and Testors canopy glue on any clear parts. It dries clear and quickly.

These f-toy minis look fantastic, I just wish they were more accessible in the UK.

Rich the P-47 I bought at the show (21st Century) is painted as a plane the was used for search and rescue. It is labeled as WW (war weary). There is a color plate on it in the Airfile book that I have. I can find many of the paint schemes used in either Airfile or Osprey books.

This is the scan of the description of the P-47 I bought. A nice model. Hope this dealer is there in October for the WWI show. Have to take a few extra dollars and give him some of them.

Thank you they do build up nice. I cannot find them locally. I get them off E Bay or from HLJ. Direct from Japan or Hong Kong.

Yes the 8th air force had a unit that did Air Sea Search. They used WW airframes.

The plane looks as immaculate as usual Rich.
I must start thinking about a few American aircraft ready for "Torch" in about 18 months time.

Rob if you don't have this book I recommend the AIRfile book Operation Torch. I have 5 of their books and they are fantastic. The color plates are equal to the Osprey books. Well worth the money.

Thank and thank F-Toys. You need P-40`s, Wildcats and SBD`s for your Torch games. If they had any TBM`s they are not mentioned.

Sort of like this guy?

134999
This is the same plane as Bob's above, but before they added the D-Day stripes. The pilot is a guess from a book on 5th ERS.
Note that some of the guns were removed from ERS planes, two or four, depending on the time period. This card reflects four removed.

Richard,

Col Hubert Zemke, CO of the 56th:
135041

Don't know:
135042
This was a transferred plane, from the 64th FS to the 322nd FG. According to what I could find, all they did was paint the tail red, and even left the previous squadron's badge on the nose.

If they had any TBM`s they are not mentioned.

http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/weapons_grumman_avenger_US.html -- "Twenty seven TBF-1s took part in Operation Torch, operating with VGS-26 (USS Sangaman), VGS-27 (USS Sawannee) and VGS-29 (USS Santee). Many of the crews were very inexperienced, and the squadrons suffered heavy losses, but they did help to silence several heavy gun batteries and three aircraft from VGS-27 became the first Avengers to sink a submarine when they destroyed a Vichy French submarine. Nice find! The TBM had some initial problem. Hard experience, teaches the correct deployment!

Scan of the SBD and TBF's. Again AIRfile book Operation Torch. There are a few F-Toy series with both Wildcats and SBD's. No TBF's yet.

"All theory is grey, my friend; but the tree of life grows ever green." [J. W. von Goethe]

For good or ill: The only way to truly find out how effective a design will be in combat is to put it in combat -- and even then, there's a question of "Is the problem with the unit, or the tactics, or...?". That's why Military (and indeed all) Failures are of interest to me -- I want to know *why* it failed.

That old theory! The the design is flawless, why can`t they make it work?
