I'm starting this poll over with brackets more in line with the current collections.
Count all the planes and balloons that you play, or intend to play, WoG with, regardless of scale.
Ares/Nexus, kits, Shapeways, F-toys el al.
Let the counting begin!

At Origins I will do a new count and then post.

The trouble is that for me there are the planes I need for games and the spares (for those new to the game) and those I get just for the hell of having them. For example I recently got an Air 200 Avero Anson, when I am going to use that I do not know, but had to get one.

I voted but cannot disclose publicly since SWMBO may stumble upon this...:)

Lets just say I have almost enough planes to fill six cases, each of which holds 64 planes (though one case is devoted to large bombers only).

I gave all of my WGS planes away as I was running out of space, and made the decision to dedicate myself to WGF only.

Less than 50, slowly growing. The group has over 200 in total, which is plenty! I tend to buy one each of the new planes for the Yanks, Belgians, Germans, and Austrians. I am staying away from the other powers as the rest of the group have them covered.

I'm in serious trouble!

I have 6 1/200 Nexus WW2 models.

The rest of my aircraft are in 1/144 scale, Nexus, Ares, F-Toys and various kits either plastic or resin, both WW1, WW2 and Korea.

Grand total in hand 297!

This does not include 3 Ares WW1 planes I just bought from Xen last night. which will round me out at exactly 300 on Wednesday after the post arrives.

I have still got Series 6 and 7 to complete and then there's a few new schemes from 2A and then Series 8 comes along.

I knew I had a couple of planes but I never counted them until this afternoon.

I'm just glad I haven't had to do a cost expenditure of the hobby. as there are more non aircraft kits and pieces I have bought or made for this game consisting of maps, ships, buildings and other terrain objects and features. Then there are all the storage containers that house the models, the shelves and cupboards, the wargames room/shed that houses it all................. the glue, tools and paint................ sitting on the workbench.....................

Just think, when I die, it will all be sold for a buck a piece at a garage sale by well meaning grand children.........

I also have
56 X-Wing minis.
32 Crimson Skies Clix and 12 Ral Partha planes for a later WoG conversion project
32 1/144 F-Toys StarWars fighters part of a shelved WoW project when X-Wing came out.
14 Titanium diecast Battlestar Galactica Colonial Vipers and Cylon Raiders for another WoG project

Its just funny when you know that at a glance that the collection is big, but to actually sit down and count it all to find out how big it really is is another thing and I have to say it is bigger than I thought it was. I also have a nagging feeling that there might actually be some more in a box I haven't counted yet...............

50 WW1. I have about 60 – 70 1/285 Raiden metal planes for WW2.

I've purposefully based my repainted collection around JGII from April 1918 to the end of the war to ensure I don't just start buying random planes. I will be adding a selection from the MFJ units but my next major purchases will be reprints of the SE5, the release of the Neiuport 28 and the Fokker DVIII.

FWIW... (incl. new order I'm about to place next week)

WW1 - 98
Have about 2/3 of the WoG WW1 Model range Collected (incl. the new series 8 in the missing 1/3 of that total) + Extras of some WW1 Models + various Third Party models.

WW2 - 104
Almost complete WoG WW2 Collection (with my next order I will just be short 1 rare model) + Extras of some WW2 Models + various Third Party models.

So 202 Total.

Understanding the best scale for this game to be 1/144 Scale I have yet to start board gaming. But so far I have amassed quite an impressive collection of F-Toys and Café Reo (Big Bird) four-engine bomber types mainly - am struggling for little friends to fly alongside these though! Starting out with our three Douglas C-47A Skytrains and three N A B-25C 'Crew Training' Mitchell aircraft things very quickly open out into four Consolidated B-24J Liberator aircraft. Standing between these and the rest of the Boeing B-17C / F / G Flying Fortress fleet are at least six Avro Lancaster B Is / B IIIs to which here is home to.

Noteable names which spring to mind: Cocktail Hour and Sharona D (B-24Js) and Shamrock Special, Mustang, Panama Hattie and of course the Memphis Belle (B-17Fs) and I began collecting these models for half the price they are now available for in January 2010 :)

I probably have around 100 1/144 scale WWI aircraft, from a variety of manufacturers: Nexus and Shapeways are the majority plus one and only ONE Ares model (Gotha G.IV... or is it supposed to be a V?). Every Ares model I have seen has had something... "off"... about it. Missing cabane struts... Wrong engine mounts... Wing struts missing... Etc... Sad to say but unless Ares ups their game and actually produce better models, I am unlikely to buy another "official" aircraft.

Timmo UK
02-27-2015, 00:10
Although there is something off about many model 1/144 planes, often due the restrictions of the scale, some ARES models are very nice. The reprint of the Fokker DVII is their best model yet in my view. I do however think that their quality is very patchy and it seems sometimes that they just couldn't be bothered to create a consistent standard.

Oh, darn.

I just messed up my up-coming storage tray order. I found some Stukas at a "can't pass this up (again!)" price. $300+ in AA storage trays, and that is for single and two seaters, only.

It doesn't include bombers or balloons. Or the Zeppelin, or the HMS Glorious (filled with Sea Gladiators and Swordfish).

I haven't ordered any of WGF series 8, nor do I have anywhere near enough Bf-109s or Hurries/Spits. Still need He-111s and a few other Battle of Britain planes to round out scenario possibilities. Heaven forbid I expand into the Mediteranian theater (please, please, please don't release a Spit Mk V trop! Please, save me from myself!)

PS: 82 WGF tray slots (no bombers, and not including Series 8 wishlist), 18 WGS tray slots (not including the Stukas, a Bf-110, the He-111 wishlist plane, nor the Glorious storage)

PPS: None of the above includes my metal D.VIII, nor the paper planes. Or Snoopy.

Beware: The green coloured Kawasaki is the KI-61-I-KIAD version ... It's the only aircraft currently available to WGS which distributes D-Tokens on a regular basis. It would shred that Mitchell in the photo with great ease so I have already discovered. Best opponent for it I would say is the Bristol Beaufighter Mk IVF (Davoud Edition) which is also something which can easily shred anything which is in it's way!

Yeah I am aware of that. Thinking of ways to add a house rule currently, maybe limit the shots, limit the targets (harder to hit faster moving, smaller aircraft) or limit both. Or maybe I'll just give it to the new guy and say, have at 'er ;). As a sort of handicap to the rest of us. Maybe I'll do an ace test, a 1vs 1 against it solo and see how long I last.
The possibilities are endless, just so long as everyone agrees with the options!

Thanks for the heads up though, I'll try and be careful.

And on another note, does anyone know where I might find Lott's P-40 online. I procrastinated with this one, opting instead for two of Hill's P-40's and now I'm kicking myself for it.

Here is a search done from the UK for you though one of the sellers is located in the USA Wes. I recently found Lott's p-40 elusive too. Hope the link works.

Heh. I sent him an amazon link to the US site. lol.

I've had my Deluxe set of planes for 2 years, and doubled that last summer, but the itch has increased greatly since I joined the site in Jan.
What do we have? Only WGS (18 Ares, 6 Noble Metal Mini's, 8 Merit planes out for painting, 2 resin by Dave-Clipper). It's the AAR reports that did it.

EDIT - Hrm..those merit's put me well over the the 25 or less I thought i had. I forgot about them. I sent them to Kevin (miscmini) to paint up since he did a good job on the metal ones.

I don't use Amazon so I would not have thought of sending Wes a link to there - looks as if he will find Lott's P-40F successfully for sure now. I think the P-40 Warhawk models in general have just been put through a production re-run as having proved to be amongst of the hardest :minis: to find IMHO over this year they have both suddenly reappeared again in respectable numbers. I think AA are still out of stock of both Editions or I would have suggested trying there before E-Bay. The type is a good one to have in a Miniatures collection - rugged and manoeuverable.

This is a real brick and mortar store (https://www.atomicempire.com/store.aspx?) in North Carolina in the states. They appear to have a good quantity of mini's for WGF & WGS. And card protectors etc. :minis:

I agree Paul but since no one lives near me that plays and I like to try out all the different areas Ares has made for I have at least 1 of each model.
The models and scenario I enjoy playing I have several to make it play good.

In the future could also put on some demonstration / participation games around my area.

Due to the same sort of situation I have also collected one of each :minis: for WGS and am in the process of negotiating doing a couple (provisionally) of WGS demos down at my FLGS or Friendly Local Gaming Store.

So I gather Skype is an excellent way of competing online against other players internationally. However away from Skype I too play loads of Solitaire scenarios though my preference by far is to play against a live and present opponent.

If I was into WGF full time the situation would be slightly different as there are a few WGF fanatics located in Derbyshire. But my main interest is WGS and most Solitaire sessions I play are to maintain the game's presence at Galactic Models Gaming Night which is held every Wednesday night down at my FLGS ... How far away are you from Derby may I ask and do you have a similar shop nearby which operates something similar to what I attend here?

hi Barney I am from Boston Lincolnshire there is no shops or clubs near that are interested.

so the best is to play solo or when wife available she plays also.

so when I get more time will see about Skype

I have the advantage that 6mm scale planes take up a lot less storage space than 1:144! I got started on that scale a long time before WoG was invented, and it's too late to change now. Most of my 1:144 planes are test prints from Shapeways.
53 WWI in 1:144
366 WWI in 1:285-1:300
~12 WWII in 1:285-1:300

Everyone needs a fantasy collection to dream about and perhaps some day vaguely approximate. Or perhaps more important, everyone needs a super example to demonstrate to a less than fully gruntled SWMBO that your personal treasures and accompanying clutter are mere trifles in the grand scheme of things. Rick Rudofsky just circulated a couple of links to Peter Tamm's personal collection, otherwise known as the International Maritime Museum. I'll pass those on here. With 45,000 + models just in 1:1250, all beautifully displayed, the collection definitely qualifies as both "ultimate aspiration" and "SWMBO's worst nightmare". See: http://www.imm-hamburg.de/ and, for example, https://picasaweb.google.com/116219861399977821152/SMSCEuropeTour2011?authkey=Gv1sRgCMD5ko2Bx97JqQE#.

Please note that the Picassa file covers the other touring experiences of a group of collectors who attended the meets in Hamburg and Kassel. Enjoy.

For those so inclined there is an American equivalent of Kassel in Norfolk,VA on Saturday, September 19th. See http://www.smsc-home.org/events.html.

I'm not sure if they are Central Powers, Entente, Axis, or Allies, but we added a few new ariel fighters with our inaugural purchase of D&D Attack Wing this evening. I avoided this game since its release, but the call was too strong tonight. At least the wife of my friend who owns the store gave me a piece of carmel-chocolate chip brownie pie; I am still waiting for my cookies from joining the Dark Side.

Having gone over to the Darkside (thank you Karl), the collection has grown to the 300+ range. Ready for the table, I'm in the 50-99 range at the moment, although if I ever get my Shapeways horde dealt with (mostly purchased back in the first flush of Shapeways enthusiasm c. 2011, and mostly still unpainted....) that'll go up at least one band. That said, my immediate future is a lower total - couple of things need funding, so a pile of my WGF repaints will be Ebay-bound this coming week. Of course that'll just free up space for more in the longer term, because megalomania's a bitch like that.... ;)

As a relative rookie I have been slowly but surely building a collection. I am only at 30, excluding my AIM Drachen. Three are Bombers, a recently acquired RNAS Handley Page, the Aschoff Gotha and the LaGuardia Caproni. All the rest are (mostly) Ares, with a few older Nexes and my one kit build - a Valom Nieuport 17 in the Charles Nungesser paint scheme (perhaps you have seen it on the Aerodrome). Repaints comprise only 6 of my kites, but the repaints always seem to be the favorites because of the time invested. I think I have more coming. I say I think because my brother and I (BB401 - Bob) and another "playmate", Scott Killinger, have been doing some bulk buying on EBay and dividing up after. I think I will be doing a minor repaint of the MvR DR.1 (425/17) back to the 477/17. It is an interesting mix of many colors and as I have found out, the Baron's No. 1 Dr.1 in terms of aerial victories. I find it interesting how many aircraft pilots seemed to have at their disposal. Get shot down in the morning and go back up In the afternoon and fight on - amazing!

Except WGS Series 6 (order not yet placed), still One Of Everything.

Annoying that the "Free Shipping" threshold is pegged right at the "Beancounter Approval Required" threshold... fergoshsakes, I carry one of the deadliest fighting pistols ever made and make life-and-death decisions every day and have done so virtually my entire adult life with not one lapse of judgement, and they STILL don't think I can handle the responsibility of managing my own money?! *rolls eyes*

171 WGS

332

+ 2 balloons

Not bad for 2-1/2 years work

Interesting that I have more WGS than WGF since I haven't tried WGS yet.
The Series 9 will balance them out and put WGF ahead.

I have an Excel file with all of mine so I can keep track of what I have.
Started that back in 2014 when I was first collecting and having a hard time keeping track of what I was getting from various eBay sites.
Wish I had picked up a few more of certain ones when they were available ....

I just broke the 200 mark (I'm at 210) in acquiring some dozen or so WW2 planes a friend wanted to trade - that 210 is majority Nexus/Ares, with a few F-Toys, New Ray, and Shapeways planes thrown in for good measure. Eighty percent of them are WW1 - it will always be my favorite period...:)

I shall acquire more, I'm sure...:p

All the best,

The counting's done (I hope; thinking I have a couple He-111s hiding somewhere):
Nexus/Ares WW1: 318
Nexus/Ares WW2: 252
Shapeways (not counting "targets" like Bugs and V-1s): 142
Models and F-toys waiting to be built: 38
Resin: 21
Skypilot diecast: about a dozen, I think (They're packed in a couple places)

So official planes: 570
Outsourced planes: 214+
Total: 784+

Let's not resurrect this poll.

Occasionally, SWMBO does browse through the Forum, and even I don't want to know the level of my addiction, let alone provide someone with ammunition about how much room I have taken up in the house and garage with 'junk'.

PS: A poll might include Tripods, as well as BSG ships and accessories, if we really want to light off a domestic conflagration.

No count, but as of right now I'm only missing the T&T Starter Ni.16 for one of everything WWI, and for WWII I have one of everything except the Squadron Packs, which are each two-or-more. This includes the house, the storage unit, and my stash waiting to ship at Miniature Market.

Flying Helmut
09-28-2020, 14:08
I've at least two of everything WW1, now including the Gold and Silver Specials, but like DB above I lack the Tripe-pods Nieuport 16.

WW2, no idea. Sporadic scatter-shot purchases when planes become available at good prices (my first two P-47s arrived today, less than £10 each BNIB) and a couple of large collections purchased but not yet absorbed.

I need a decent spell of time to try to organise a count, but that would detract from much-needed painting time.

I confine my interest to WW1 so I guess it scales down the possibility to grow the collection to the wuthering heights someone reached... Nevertheless I'm extremely proud of my 22 fighters, 4 two-seaters and 1 observation balloon!

Breaking it down by nationality

Germans: 6 fighters, 2 two seater
Austro-Hungarians: 6 fighters
Italians: 5 fighters
British: 2 fighters, 1 two seater
French: 2 fighters, 1 two seater
Americans: 1 fighter

Observation balloon doesn't have a stable nationality and moved to whatever side of the table suits the Scenario

BellMW54
04-23-2023, 12:35
I see that back in '17 I had 150 planes (mostly WGF) and a balloon. Although I've not counted my air forces have grown to somewhere over 200 (all ARES except for the 1 Nexus), most of which have, sadly, yet to see combat...primarily due to the recent pandemic. However, should ARES ever produce any of the long awaited early war WGF machines and balloons (or any American and Japanese fighters, dive bombers and torpedo bombers of the early Carrier War of 1942), my collection would expand commensurately.
