I'm primarily interested in the BoB-era for scenarios, but I have no experience making scenarios of my own. So I don't know if loosely formulated victory conditions are better than VPs, how wide the playing area should be, etc.

Available to me are:

2 spitfires
1 hurricane
3 109 (including Galland's E4)
2 Stuka
(1 Wildcat + 1 Zero from the Dawn of War Deluxe Mini set)

What are good scenario's to make to have more than simple dogfights? My first ideas are:

A Kanalkampf-like scenario, where the Axis aim is to kill at least one out of three boats with two Stukas, protected by 2 109s, opposing two British fighters?
Two unescorted Stukas vs 1 fighter, with 1 target (Radar tower) as an objective?
Two Stukas need to cross an area, protected by 2-3 109s, vs 2-3 British planes.

I'd also like some advice on how to formulate the different victory conditions. Scenarios should of course be fun for both sides. Also, are there optional rules which should be in play to make certain scenarios even better? I haven't used AA-fire either, so I don't know to set it up in a fun way.

I will experiment some on my own, but would appreciate sound advice on this as a proper starting point.

Whatever the scenario you plan, always have the "RAF" outnumbered, but with an achievable aim, protecting the tower in the second and endeavouring to bring down the Stuka(s) in the last.

For fighter vs fighter, again, try to disadvantage the "RAF", but you could offset this using fuel rules for the luftwaffe, i.e 40-60 points of fuel before they have to bug out for home, with usage rates of 2 pts for high speed, 1pt for low speed and an extra pt per turn for fire or smoke...

Luftwaffe shiould preferably be used in pairs (rotte) whilst for the "RAF" 1 (doing a "rudder check"), 2 (out dogfight training) or 3's (patrol formation) is fine. The film "The Battle of Britain" (unsuprisingly) is a brilliant source of inspiration for mini-missions and scenarios.

As a rule of thumb, the more planes, the more space, but dogfights tend to be in a very small area. For shows I try to get 12' x 4' to bring waves of bombers down the table, but the combat seems to focus around a 2' x 2' area in the middle.

Just remember that Flak, like landmines is an equal opportunity weapon!

:salute: Welcome to the Drome Tsjok.

Do go and have a look at our new Campaign Fire in the Skies. there are as lot of missions coming up there which you can alter to suit your needs.
Also don't forget to sign in on the Reporting for Duty Forum. The other pilots will want to know that you have touched down.
