Thanks for the Heads up Andrea.
A very good chance for some of the members to bolster their Squadrons at no extra cost to them.

Going to need to find out what time it starts in GMT. I think Italy is about an hour different.
Thanks for the heads up Zoe. Looks as if you will need to set your alarm clock.

First quiz - answers:

The answers of yesterday's questions are:

1. Which evolution of the SPAD VII was an enlarged version with a 37mm cannon firing through a hollow propeller shaft? SPAD XII

2. Which American pilot flying a SPAD VII ended his working life operating a lift in New York? Eugene Bullard

3. Which German ace got in trouble with his superiors having joined a French SPAD formation with a captured one to see if he could be easily spotted as an enemy, and then being almost shot down by friendly ground fire while coming back home? Eduard Ritter von Schleich

And the winner is... Stuart Greenwell, winning the SPAD S.VII - Guynemer! As he is a fan of Wings of Glory on Facebook and on BoardGameGeek, he also wins the SPAD S.VII - Soubiran and the SPAD S.VII -23 Squadron as bonus prizes!

Today's questions:

1. Which plane was piloted by Lanoe Hawker when he was shot down by the Red Baron flying an Albatros D.II?

2. Which famed Austro-Hungarian ace had a hard landing with an Albatros D.II in March 1917, on the Western front, while being assigned to Jasta 24 to learn German organization and tactics?

3. Which famed ace with 40 victories died when the upper wing of his Albatros D.II was damaged by the landing gear of another plane from his unit?

I had to guess #2, as there was only one AH ace that I know of who flew an Albatros D.II with Jasta 24 in March 1917, but I've been unable to find evidence of the hard landing. The other two I'm sure many here could answer in seconds.

Did well last night. I know a lot more about the German side of things anyway as that is where my main interest lies. Had all the correct answers in a short time but apparantly not fast enough. Oh well maybe I get the lucky draw.
The first one gave me headaches and today is also not my area of expertise. I will enter for the lucky draw however.

The questions today:

1. Who was the flight observer flying with William Harvey when he scored 11 official victories, before he formed crew with Dennis Waight?

2. Which wartime passenger of a Bristol F.2B Fighter rode a motorbike in a makeshift race against such a plane after the war?

3. What was on board of a Bristol F.2B captured in mid October 1917, causing its crew to be sentenced to 10 years for treason?

The answers of yesterday's questions are:

1. Which plane was piloted by Lanoe Hawker when he was shot down by the Red Baron flying an Albatros D.II? Airco DH.2

2. Which famed Austro-Hungarian ace had a hard landing with an Albatros D.II in March 1917, on the Western front, while being assigned to Jasta 24 to learn German organization and tactics? Godwin Brumowski

3. Which famed ace with 40 victories died when the upper wing of his Albatros D.II was damaged by the landing gear of another plane from his unit? Oswald Boelcke

#1 I answered with Airco DH2 Serial No. 5964.... it asked for aircraft, not aircraft type... :)

#2 Godwin Brumowksi was the only AH ace I know of who served in Jasta 24 in March 17. But I don't know where the account of the hard landing comes from.

#3 The incident is quite famous. This was an easy one.

As for today's #3 question... a visit to http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=158411 would be illuminating.
For #2 ... http://thevintagent.blogspot.com.au/2007/09/te-lawrence-road-taken-from-mint.html likewise.

3. What was on board of a Bristol F.2B captured in mid October 1917, causing its crew to be sentenced to 10 years for treason? propaganda leaflets
