Yesterday we continued with testing missions (according to timetable (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ai6tsHj9XkQ9dGxIYVpRaHk3LWp1dXlpYlY2cTFJRmc&usp=sharing)) for Prague Con 2014. The next mission was from far far north in Norway.

The Frozen Tundra
Prague, 6th February 2014
1:05, 4 players, 4 planes

Date of mission: 21th May 1940
Location: Bardufoss near Narvik
Story: During Battle of Narvik, Germans needed to remove from service an airfield in Bardufoss. The lonely He.111 (or even two in Prague Con) was approaching to the airfield and was attacked by three Allied Gloster Gladiators.
Axis Forces: 1x Heinkel He.111 H-5
Allied Forces: 2x Gloster Gladiator Mk.I; 1x Gloster Sea Gladiator
Axis victory conditions: destroy a target and leave the battlefiel
Allied victory conditions: destroy bomber before it succesfully bomb the target airfield
Balance: About 75 %. It worked well, but we are considering to add an escort fighter (probably a Bf.109 E) and one stronger defender (British Hurricane Mk.I). I would have read to your suggestions.

Allied aircraft spotted enemy's bomber and they are turning to it.
122227

Bomber is approaching to the side of the battlefield and British Sea Gladiator came closer.
122228

British Sea Gladiator after first hits turning to the right and Norwegian Gladiator (Red 1 with red stripe on the peg) is under fire of German side gunner.
122229

The fatal collision of Red 1 and He.111. Other two Gladiators are firing from all guns that they have.
122230

Red 1 is down. Red 2 and Sea Gladiator are continue with hunting from the rear side of the bomber.
122231

The bomber is over the target and bombing, hunters are on it's tail (and firing, of course!).
122232

Targed succesfully bombed, bomber on the way to home and Sea Gladiator is starting to burn.
122233

The Red 2 and He.111 shooted down each other in the last turn. Sea Gladiator burned in the same time. Mission is over.

PS: The mission was inspired by Skaflock's Sneak attack at Trondheim (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?17611-Sneak-attack-at-Trondheim).

Maybe more like Shakespeare - nothing, nothing, one death, nothing, nothing, all death, end. But Gladiators were Norwegian, not Danish :)

We played the heavy load rule, and so the bomber (me) couldn't go fast till the bombs have been dropped. I realized that the both side slips, we usually use for correction before bombing, are fast maneuvers. Since then i wasn't a big fan of that rule and my back got pretty sweat, because all corrections i had were slow turns. However "alles richtig", i eventually dropped the load from level 3 and it all hit. I had one more dive to protect myself on the way back but one of the Glads kept crashing into me, and so i had it soon after dropping bombs.

Good point, Jan. I forgot about the heavy load rule. Thank you.

Could be worse -- could have been Scottish.

Like Macbeth. >:)
