Maybe we start to register the players/forumers and squadrons to be used her.

I think I'll enlist my "old" Midway Rising fighter squadron (VF-8) from the USS Hornet to the USS Saratoga.

This would fit perfectly to my "personal" starting point, the Guadalcanal campaign, due to the fact that I already solved a midway campaign. ;)

On 7 July, Task Force 11 departed Pearl for the Southwest Pacific; it consisted of Saratoga, four heavy cruisers, Astoria, New Orleans, Minneapolis and Vincennes, and was escorted by seven destroyers. Also assigned were three replenishment oilers and four fast transports converted from old four-stack destroyers. The carrier embarked 90 aircraft, comprising 37 Wildcats, 37 Dauntlesses and 16 Avengers.

Ok.

Here is my crew from former VF-8 USS Hornet.

Found something:

While officially designated the 3d Bombardment Group (Light), the group unofficially styled itself with its historic name, the "3d Attack Group," after being equipped with low-altitude strafing bombers. Field-modified with .50 caliber machine guns taken from wrecked fighters, these strafing bombers were the brainchild of a former naval aviator serving in the USAAF, Paul "Pappy" Gunn,The 13th and 90th Squadrons were equipped with its "Dutch" B-25s field modified into the B-25C-1 strafer configuration. The 89th Squadron flew the Douglas A-20A Havoc attack bomber while the 8th Squadron used the Douglas A-24 dive bomber until July 29, 1942, but also used the B-25 and A-20.

The group had its headquarters in Australia until January 1943, but its squadrons operated from forward locations in New Guinea, bombing and strafing enemy airfields, supply lines, installations, and shipping as the Allies halted the Japanese drive toward Port Moresby and drove the enemy back from Buna to Lae. At the end of that campaign, group headquarters moved to New Guinea.

Seems this is a good choice for the B-25 Mitchell bombers. :)

Depending on the players.

For me - Midway is solved.

I'll start with Guadalcanal. ;)

Don't know about Barry and Joaquim.

 G'day chaps!
I would like to start right after Pearl Harbour & progress through.

I can field 5 Wildcats from Yorktown (or Enterprise if necessary).:D I will let Sven enjoy Hornet!:D

I can also have 2 Dauntless & 2 Avengers from Yorktown plus a Vindicator flying from Midway Atoll & then add in 2 Aussie P-40's & 2 Beaufighters for later Missions plus a Mitchell Gunbus.

Got lots of Japs. Zeros, Vals, Kates & 2 Lily's.

Game on!;)

Put me down for a U.S. squadron. I will do a little research and see what kinds of books I can find. If possible, I would like to learn about an historical unit, though my pilots names will probably be fictitious. Is the time coverage mid-'42 to mid-'43?

Right now, I have all the Ares/Nexus minis and cards.

 I have started to work up my listings as I slowly paint up my AIM aircraft but off the top of my head will have the following:

2 Wildcats from Enterprise
2 Wildcats from Yorktown
2 Dauntless from Enterprise
2 Devastators from Yorktown
2 Avengers from Enterprise
1 Wildcat from Midway Atoll
1 Vindicator from Midway Atoll
2 Zero's from Akagi
2 Kate's from Akagi
2 Zeros from Soryu
2 Val's from Soryu
2 Lily's from land base
2 Aussie P-40's
2 Aussie Beaufighters
1 US Mitchell

Back up for later: 2 Kawasaki's.

At present I have Yorktown, Enterprise & Hornet plus some US cruisers & Destroyers.
Akagi, Soryu, Kaga, Shokaku & a Jap light carrier (Rhyru i think) plus many of the Cruisers & destroyers from Midway. All these are War at Sea models.

These can be introduced into missions as required.

I will work up a sheet with pilots & abilities etc.

I just managed to snag a War at Sea model of Kaga from 12-7 games so that now just leaves IJN Hiryu to get to complete all the carriers at Midway.
I guess if push comes to shove I will just have to use Shokaku to sub for Hiryu if nothing becomes available.;)

7eat51
02-14-2014, 21:18
Kevin,

We are putting together a campaign in which each player creates a roster of pilots to fly. We will be using a set of solo rules. As our pilots score kills, they can earn more abilities. As they are killed, well, let's just say that is a part of war. After each player flies a given mission, the player writes an AAR and posts it. Someone will keep a tally on how each pilot is doing, etc. It is basically a way to play together. If this doesn't answer what you are asking, please restate your question.

Cheers.

02-15-2014, 10:03

:hmm: Hi Folks! Has there been any decision on when this campaign will commence & any thoughts on designing the Scenarios?

Are we going with the suggested list of scenarios given in Svens original post at the top of the Thread?

I have just been rewatching the series "Battlefield 360---USS Enterprise" & it occured to me we could design a good scenario based on the battles in "the slot" or Iron Bottom Sound where Carrier aircraft attacked the troop transports bring Jap reinforcements to Guardalcanal. What think you? A nice bouncy title could be "Into the Slot!":cheezy:

Coral Sea
Midway
Wake
Bismark Sea - New Guinea - Port Moresby
Solomon Islands - Guadacanal, Iron Bottom Sound, Slot

Difficult to say at the moment, campaigners.

Those Scenario lits posted in the top thread can cover a battle over a few month, but not the whole Pacific war.

Maybe we can desing 2 - 3 intro missions.

Pearl Harbor / Flying Tigers / Malaysia

Continue to 3 - 4 Midway missions

Island attack / Fighter Duel / Ship attack / Sink the carrier

and close the first part with 8 - 10 Solomon Islands / New Guinea missions until mid 1943

for example

1) Jap attack on a town/harbour (Port Moresby/Java/Midway etc)
2) Shipping attack on a Supply Ship
3) Recon Mission--- spot the Enemy
4) Stop the Troops Landing from Barges
5) Carrier plane Battles
6) Attack on own airfiled / carrier
7) Bomb Rabaul/Truk etc
8) Sink the Carriers/ Cruisers/Destroyers/BB

13 - 17 missions will cover more then a year of solo campaign gaming.

Its amazing what you can do with pen and paper then type them out from there....NP mate done and dusted.

Neil

:D Hi Neil!
I originally posted my Rosters in PDF in Post No. 37 & only added the Jpegs versions later as I thought Sven & co would prefer them that way.

Hope you can retrieve them from post 37.

Please let me know if you have any problems.

Thanks Mate.

I'm working my my way through ships as we speak. Hopefully the Japanese carriers will be next, US Battlewagons, US Cruisers, then Japanese and US Destroyers. Japanese have 3 cruisers and 2 battlewagons already done in the file section, I think I did the links for them in one of the threads here.

With Shokaku (doubling up as Zuikaku too) you now have 8 Japanese carriers and 5 US carriers for 1941 to choose from.

I think US cruisers (2 x CA and 1 x CL) and destroyers with Japanese destroyers next and we should have enough to get on with.

I was going to do Destroyers next but I've got carried away with Japanese cruisers. I have revamped the Mogami/Mikuma to 1/1200 and 1/1800 scale and added a few more, well 9 more actually and completed the Mogami class by adding Suzuya and Kumano plus the Mogami conversion to sea plane carrier. Just got carried away. Will probably post this huge pdf next week.

Well it was at Midway so how about a seek and destroy mission from the USN before they launch an attack on a fleet or land base to deny the Japs intelligence on the Fleets movement, strength etc by using the seaplanes as recon planes. :): Happy to design a scenario to simulate this if there are any slots free.

Lt. S.Kafloc

Chitose was launched in 1936. Completed in July 1938. 4 catapults 24 sea planes capacity. In 1941 stern was altered to carry 12 midget submarines and sea plane capacity was halved. Converted to a conventional light carrier in 1943 to help offset the heavy carrier losses of 1942.

Will do both variants after I get the cruisers completed.

Coral Sea (A could have been)? The sea plane attack on Tulagi. Or most definitely the Battle of Cape Esperance.

Thats what happens when you don't read the script, apologies. But if your scenario is way down the line then hopefully they will be released or we could try and source them elsewhere. I'll start looking.

Neil

PS (There is always the card variant to fall back on)
