Just a 1-on-1 between a Nieuport 27 and an SSW D.III, followed by an RE8 escorted by an SE5a vs a Pfalz D.VIII, an SSW D.III and a Fokker Dr.I

The first ended after a lot of sparring and maneuvering, with the badly shot up Nieuport heading for home, leaving the equally badly shot up (but more sturdy) D.III in possession of the field. Both planes trace their ancestry back to the Nieuport 11, one via the SSW D.I, the other via the Nieuport 17 and 24.

The two pilots were too evenly matched, both fighting in both the vertical and horizontal, first one plane getting an advantage, then the other.

The second was notable by the sheer amount of firing that happened in a short period of time - leading to only one aircraft still flying.

The red ruler indicates "out of range" - just.

The Pfalz (victim of the dreaded BOOM card from only the 3rd B deck it took) crashlanded behind enemy lines, the SE5a and Dr.I made it back to friendly territory, and the badly damaged D.III was the only one left. The RE8... was on its way down when the wings fell off.

The Dr.I pilot was flying in his first game, the SE5a player in his second.

I found this AAr now Zoe.
Thanks for posting it.
Don't worry it is only a matter of time before I start posting WWII in the WWI section.
By the look of the battlefield, I'd say you had been hexed!
