View Full Version : Japanese vs French, AKA The Dogfight You Get With Only A Handful of WWII Planes

After the battle over the muddy Adriatic, we advanced the timeframe to sometime during WWII. The action was over the muddy Yellow River, where a Tony and a Zero encounter a Detwoine and two P-40s, one French, another a Flying Tiger.

Having no idea what sort of (im)balance this three-on-two would be, I thought that starting the Detwoine well ahead of the P-40s might even things out a bit.

We Japanese would have at least a turn to overpower it, and hopefully do it massive damage, before having to tangle with the P-40s.

It was actually closer to two turns.

With enough exchanges to bring the Detwoine down.

With such an early loss, we let the Detwoine return. And since my Zero was downed a phase or two later, I also came back into the action. In... an Italian plane?!?! (Hey, like I said, this is what happens when you only have a handful of WWII.)

I have my sights set on the Flying Tiger P-40, while PRS has just made a run at the French P-40.

And then we sandwich the Flying Tiger!

It's now two-on-two, soon to be two-on-one.

We called it a Japanese victory at the two-on-one point. I seem to recall the Detwoine went down again, and that my wife's French P-40 had only one hit point. Odd scenario, that one. It serves as a reminder that I need more WWII planes.

Oh! When I posted pics from this month's Monday game at the Family Game Store I had a pic or two of my friend Mike's carrying case/ammo box. He brought it again, and this time I remembered to take pics of the inside.

Yes, a strange mixture, but a great AAR, John.

I like the storage solution in the ammo box.

If Ares ever produces the Morane-Saulnier MS.406, one can have those going against Zeros and Hayabusas over Indochina....

Yes, Mike did a great job with that. He said, half-jokingly, that if he gets into Sails of Glory he will have to build a treasure chest for the ships.

Great to see a mismatch of types having a go. Makes a change from the regular dog fights and sometimes you can get a suprise or two as well.
Thanks for posting this nice little dog fight John.
Rob.

John

A very interesting AAR. It breaks the boredom of matched aircraft!

True, there was some fun in doing the whole mix-and-match thing. Randomness can have an appeal.
