My bombers, already over England, advance towards the designed target. The promissed fighter scort didn't show up, but the crews are still confident on achieving success in the mission.

As the group is composed of hookie crews, they got a low priority target, expecting to avoid aerial opposition. But, unknown to my crews, a wing of Hurricane fighters is patrolling the target area.

The two wings are in a colision course.

Getting near the target, the frontal gunner on the command bomber spot the two dots on the horizon, directly ahead and closing fast - “Achtung ! Hurricanes !”.
The two wing close fast exchanging fire at long range.

The fighters concentrate themselves in firing on the bomber to the right of the formation – Tomato 2, while the gunners of the two bombers fire on the fighter to their left.
As the Tomato 2 crew feels the plane shudder by the impacts of the British shells, the comander demands a damage report and the status of the crew. The answer is that all the crew are fine and the plane seems to be in good shape to continue the mission.
With the planes at high velocity, they pass each other, and the fighter can't fire again. Only Tomato 2 manages to put another burst into one of the fighters. The general feeling on the bombers is of frustration as the fighters passed by with no apparent damage.

(The miniatures of the fighters were taken away from the mat because they were occupying the same space).
After that, the bomber continue towards the target. One of the fighters executes an “Immelmann” and starts after the bombers while the other one starts a long turn to the right.

It is obvious that the german crews are nervous as Tomato Leader misses the target and Tomato 2 gets only partial damage on it.

With one of the fighters getting closer the bombers start to turn to go back to base, loosing the formation in the process.

One of the fighters keeps the persuit, at a safe distance, while the bombers go the long way home, only to find the way barred by the other fighter.

General view of the situation.

One of the Hurricanes passes by Tomato 2, exchanging fire with it, and then exchanging fire with Tomato Leader.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=97377&d=1372952762
At this time, Tomato leader starts to receive the attention from the othet fighter at long range. Tomato Leader is still firing on the closest Hurricane.

With a clear way, the bombers are flying fast to reach their base (border of the mats), but Tomato Leader is at the tail of the wing, in a long range duel with one of the Hurricanes.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=97379&d=1372952870
At this time, disaster strucks – one of the gunners of Tomato Leader is hit, but it was not the gunner operating the rear firing machine gun.

Another view of the combat situation.
Things start to change when the Hurricane dueling with Tomato Leader starts to smoke.

With one of the fighters too far away and the other without any fighting spirit left, the bombers reach the safety of the border of the map.
