I don't know where it's been, but it is scheduled to be delivered to my house tomorrow afternoon... all 45 boxes of it! My goal is to get as many of them as I can packaged up and shipped out with the Saturday post and the rest out on Monday. If you don't get an email from the AA site by Wednesday, please contact me so I can look into your order in detail for you... but please wait until Wednesday so that I can work on getting as many of the orders out as fast as possible for you guys and gals.

They hit my doorstep today Keith Many thanks for first rate service.

Series 6 is fabulous. The 90 degree turns and sharp slideslips for all the models was a pleasant surprise. Alb DVas have suddenly become a trifle boring. The straights for the triplehounds were longer than I expected. I thought I would be seeing the D deck. Were the Sopwiths that much faster than the DrI ?

Indeed. Tried out the SS D.III this weekend for the first time & I now have another favorite plane to add to the list. :cheezy:

Were the Sopwiths that much faster than the DrI ?

From what I understand, they were, because of the type of engine used? I think also the lack of weight from a second gun?

Hmm...I just did a quick Google search...

top speed for the Sopwith Tripe shows as: 117mph, the Dr.1: 115mph
Sopwith shows a 130hp engine, Dr.1 110 hp

So I guess the couple extra MPH & the 20 extra horses+the lighter load of 1 gun makes the difference. :)

I think one of them (Collishaw) does A damage and there is no adjustment in the speed. Seems like a pretty drastic change from the D deck....I wonder what the reasoning was ?

Woo Hoo - my aircraft landed in South Australia this morning (about a week earlier than I had predicted)! :)

Co-incidentally, I am just a few kilometres down the road from where Ross & Keith Smith landed their Vickers Vimy way back in 1919.

For years the paddocks were empty and I roamed them on my bike in my youth. Now they are covered in housing - but there is a road named 'Ross Smith Boulovarde: http://goo.gl/maps/h3VZK

From what I heard (IIRC), it was due to more accurate research. I do agree, that it is odd that such a small difference in HP & MPH equated to the difference in decks/switching from the D. If I'm also not mistaken, mention was made of the fact the the Black Maria SHOULD be slower, but that they weren't going to include a different deck than the other Tripes in the series (makes me wonder if it SHOULDN'T be given a D as a house rule as a trade off for the extra gun...) :hmm:

All I know is I wish the Dr.1 were faster...

Angiolillo

I am in the mountains at the back of Genoa, with no books and limited connection.
Just from a look at Wikipedia, I get these max speeds:

Sopwith Triplane 117 mph (187 km/h)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sopwith_Triplane#Specifications_.28Clerget_9B-engined_variant.29

Sopwith Camel 115 mph (185 km/h)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sopwith_Camel#Specifications_.28F.1_Camel.29

So it is pretty accurate to have them in the same range, with the same lenght of arrows.
When we made the very first boxes of WoW, released back in March 2004, we tought that we could simplify a bit and give the same deck to the Dr.I and the Triplane, but now I prefer to stick more accurately to the standardization system we used for all the other planes.

In my books, I have this top speed for the Dr.I: 103mph (165kmh; 89kts)
As in http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/detail.asp?aircraft_id=203 for example.
This is the speed we considered when we did the D deck. And it fits with reports of the Red Baron being slower than his opponents, so I think that this little difference is .worth to be portrayed in the game.
According to the "Sopwith Camel vs. Fokker Dr.I" Osprey, it is even a too optimistic speed (see bottom pf page 28):
http://books.google.it/books?id=Qswwiv7No80C&pg=PA30&dq=speed+Fokker+Dr.I&hl=it&sa=X&ei=M6_4UdXjJaWu4QTkoIC4BQ&ved=0CDwQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=speed%20Fokker%20Dr.I&f=false
Yes I know that Wikipedia gives 115 km/h, and several sites with it. But again according to the Osprey above, such a speed was achieved by the sn 469/17 with an experimental 145hp engine (see page 30). The same figure could also be but a guess interpretating speed curves, but there is a lot of technical debate about that and many doubts that this is appropriate.

If you really wanted to penalize Collishaw for two guns, a simple house rule would be to add one to his climb rate.

Keith, my series six order arrived today. Package shows it shipped on July 23, 2013 so 10 days in transit.

Quick thoughts. First, Keith did a great job as usual packaging the order and he replied promptly to my query. Excellent. :thankyou::salute:

Second, I ordered 2 SS D.III's - Lange, Veltjens, 2 Sopwith Tripes - Collishaw, Little, 1 Aviatik D.I - Turek, and 1 Hanriot - Fucini. The paint schemes are absolutely fantastic, with Turek and Fucini being my favourite. :drinks:

Third, of the miniatures, the SS D III's and Fucini's Hanriot appear to be the best put together and I could not perceive any irregular angles. That being said, the tail fin of my Veltjens managed to snap off, pull out of it's slot as I struggled to get it out of it's plastic moulding. I barely touched it and it came off. A bit of glue will rectify the problem. I checked the tail rudder on Lange and it was firmly attached. Not sure if it was a model defect or my man hands. :fixit:

My Turek Aviatik has a noticeable twist to the left with it's tail assembly, whereas both Tripes have a twist to the right, not as noticeable as Turek's Aviatik, but still noticeable. :hmm:

Will this effect my ability to use these models, not at all. :pint:Has anyone else noticed any irregularities with their series six minis?

On a personal note, it would be nice if we could have pilot heads and not blobs sitting in the cockpit.

So, I have 6 Tripes (1 Collishaw, 5 Littles that will all be repainted into the Black Flight [including a Collishaw single gunner]), and now have 4 Dr.1s (one paper Kempf, MvR, LvR, Kirschstein).

So, match-up using four Dr.1s and the Tripes coming. Should be fun.
