With the official WGS Focke Wulf Fw 190D-9 in the pipeline with Series V, I thought I'd start a thread devoted to these excellent Luftwaffe fighters.

Here's a couple of Tunisian Fw 190A's I have just finished to start things off - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?14432-WGS-Tunisian-Campaign-1942-43-1-200-Air-200-Focke-Wulf-Fw-190As-II-JG2

Carl,
They are 190 A's I believe. From the looks of them from the same moulds as yours. I bought them on evil bay and they were advertized as Air 200 casts. I went for a generic western front look. Based on what bit and pieces of decals I had they ended up being JG2.

Black numbers and horizontal bar indicate they are Staffel 8 assigned to II./JG2 on 21 September 1943. Staffel 8 was based in Conches until November 1943, joining the rest of Gruppe II at Creil in northen France. In August 1944 II./JG2 moved to St. Trond, then again to Frankfurt-Eschborn the following month. At the end of September 1944 the Gruppe moved for the last time to Nidda 40km northeast of Frankfurt.

On their return from Tunisia II./JG2 flew the Messerschmitt Bf 109G from May 1943 until December of that year when it was re-equipped with the Fw 190A-6, armed with 2 x 13mm machine guns and 4 x 20mm cannon (WGS firepower - short BCCCC, long ACC).

These are 1/144 scale, and some of first ever attempts in 1/144 scale. Before this, I was a 1/172 scale builder. Kits by Platz, I think was the company. great kits, but one of my first tries in 1/144 scale. If you've never done 1/144 before, it takes some getting used to. These two wound up matching up pretty close to a couple Tankara Fw-190Ds I acquired latter on in my collecting, and made nice "Team Mates". Heres one of my Platz Fw-190Ds, then the Takara one I pair it up with in games, in the next pic.

Just a minor correction. The A-6 still has 7.92mm MG 17s mounted in the fuselage, above the engine. Not till the A-7 does the Würger switch to MG 131s.

And I never should have looked in this thread. I've yet to play a game with the WWI birds I picked up, and now you guys have me wanting to buy some Fw 190s and Jugs to play WWII! My wallet hates you. ;)

My repaint of the official mini...

I just wanted a Fw190 with gray rather than the green camo more commonly found. On the internet I found this one and picked it without knowing who the pilot was. Afterwards I started searching I found out that it belonged to Gerhard Barkhorn who was the second best scoring ace of the Luftwaffe.

OldGuy59
06-12-2014, 15:37
Guys,
Using Photoshop, and layers makes it much easier to do templates. Then, I just duplicate a layer and touch it up, or retype the stats. The new cards can be done with an existing font on my PC, I don't have to do a custom drawing for individual maneuver letters or damage numbers (although I am building up a reference file of the entire alphabet and all nine digits as I go).

For the above cards, it was about 20-30 minutes to match the dark green camo to the plane, but the sand colored one was seconds to do. Reformating the sand and brown spot layers from the D9 to the A5 was not long either. A few minutes.

Doing up colors schemes for different planes may take a bit longer, if I don't have the line overlay for the panels and outline for the particular mark. And bombers with gun arcs all over the place, and crew management cards are really complicated. If I have to make it all up from scratch, it is a lot longer to do.

No elves, I'm afraid.

Mike :)

My dear friend Karl (Jager) presented me a nice pair of „Clipper - shortend“ FW 190Ds (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?17366-FW-190D-s-de-evolving-to-FW190A-s&highlight=FW190) at Origings, that can be used as FW190A-6 versions.

With the upcoming Lancasters I had the idea to repaint them as FW190A-6 single seater nightfighters from the JG 300 „Wilde Sau“ that defended Berlin versus the British night raids against the German capital from 1943 - 1944 under the command of Geschwaderkommodore & Ritterkreuzträger Hans-Joachim Herrmann.

Here is the plane with the number 1 of Hajo Herrman:

http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=144044&d=1411128653

I was inspired by this pictures. Maybe the light grey and the green on the upper side of the wings are a little bit too bright.

The fighters of the JG300 weren't equipped with radar.

Beautiful repaints guys  I like your different schemes, as Ares originals look very much alike.

Looking through an internet I found somenthing interesting about Doras. In 1945 assembly works in Malbork, Prussia was captured by Soviets. Several Doras ready for flight have been seized there and after quick repaint they were introduced into Soviet airforce. However, no sources confirm if they were used in battles or just for testing purposes.

Here you can find painting schemes in soviet colours:

147720

Very true! It's actualy German painting schemes where German markings were covered with German base colour and Russian star painted on that...

It was quite common for Soviets, look at some lend-lease planes. They quite often retained original camo as well and only nationality markings were overpainted.

Пилот
10-12-2014, 02:26
I believe the time was the main issue. In some periods during the war Soviets delivered tanks to the front straight from the factory, painted only in base paint.

Jager

Given that the Red Airforces were overwhelming the Luftwaffe by a factor of 10 to 1, I doubt they would have been used in Germany. Maybe against the Japanese in Manchuria, but most likely, for evaluation only.
The La-7 was pretty much a match for the Dora, so why risk friendly fire accidents?
IIRC, the Russians didn't use much, if any, captured German equipment. By the time they were capturing large numbers of stuff, they already had a superior tank (T-34/76 and /85), and probably lacked the ability to retrofit Russian guns onto the chassis, like the Germans did with large amounts of captured Czech, French and British tanks. Trying to maintain Panthers and Tigers, when the Germans were having serious issues(!), would have been impossible.
The most valued LL stuff we gave them were trucks, telephone wire and 100 octane gasoline for fighters.

Although I pinned some bad-lighted photos on the Officer's Club wall, finally the lighting is much better and the camera is appropriate, so now am presenting the "Fantastic Four Focke-Wulfs 190A" from AIM. Original Pactra colours RLM 74/75/76 grey scale and Africa Yellow plus some white covering the grey camo were used. These are so to say generic schemes, neither any particular units nor pilots.

With cards already printed, they are ready to play minis:)

Greetings!

A friend of me give me as a present a few minis of the same scale than my WoW/WoG planes. One of them was a FW-190A. Unfortunately, I don't know the mini manufacturer... if somebody knows it please inform to me about it.

I have found in Spanish forum a friend that paint minis at a good price. He has sent my FW painted a week ago and I'm very impressed because he has made a great job!

I bought some accesories from aerodrome to complete them and, here you have the final results. I hope you like it!

I selected 6/JG.1 Stormede flown by Alfred Bindseil.
Here you have some photos together my WoG FW190 D-9 7/JG26 (ref.WGS105C).

Touch up to the colors, or OK as done (BTW: the RGB values are the closest to Historical RLM 74 and RLM 75 I could do. Which is what the painting references are calling for, but even they don't match the historical references in colors. Caveman
01-09-2018, 21:39
Hi Ross, It was a lot of trial and error and I'm sure there is a better way for people who know what they are doing. For the 1/48 decals from my collection, I scanned them and transferred the picture to Word. Then reduced them to the approximate size, printing off four or so sizes, picking the correct size to be put on decal paper. Other decals I found on the Internet just by searching something like "Hermann Graf decals." You should be able to find a picture of a FW-190 in his livery. Once I found that, I used the Snip Tool and/or Copy Paste to put the picture on a Word document. Printed off several pictures of the same airplane and used an actual model to compare and choose the correct size from my prints by holding the model to a printed copy. I use that as a basis for making the rest of the individual decals. That's it in a nutshell. Kind of messy and time consuming, I know, but it's the way I figured out. Good luck. BTW - Nice job on your 190's.

The images in the blue field are ones that were not attached to the thread Cedric - as moderator I have added them for you but can do nothing about the orientation of the images.
It may be they have reverted to how they were originally taken on the device used. ie if you took it as a landscape it's still presented as a portrait. We have had that happen before. It may be worth you creating an album and experimenting this out before you post further images.
Very nice modelling though :hatsoff:

Very nice 190s. I'm sure they will take a bite out of the B-24 bomber box.

Fox: a nice set of Butcherbirds; I'm sure they will mess those invading B-24s up nicely.

Ross: a good looking Schwarm as well. Are they AiM's?
