How many planes did you put in the largest 2-player scenario you have ever played?
Describe it if you like.

9 aside zeros & wildcats - took most of a day & my opposite number got most of his decks of cards mixed up. The after-game unjumbling was something of a headache...but it was great fun!

For ease of play in multiplayer games we never choose more than 1 plane apiece. Planing 3 (WGF) or even 2 (WGS) cards ahead for multiple planes can be painful, messy and not entertaining. And above all it would ruin my feeling of piloting a particular plane which is the backbone of the system fun, IMHO.

Personally I like the headache. Just so long as it doesn't cause the game to last forever... That is why I hate playing dogfights.

You may already know, but mine is here (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?14246-AAR-Balloon-Busters-Mini-Campaign-(Training-Pilots)).
4v3 balloon busting = 3 rounds, but 2&1/2 hours.

Bf 109 and Ju 87 vs Spits and Hurricanes - 7 total. Solo game played over few days.

2 v 2 WW1 at the club, 5 on 5 (twice) WW1 solo. I think 2 is just about enough, gives a player an option to play on if his 1st plane is shot down. More than that would take an age at the club and time is limited. We normally can get in 3 games controlling 1 plane each with up to 8 planes on the table.

5 vs. 5

Se5a, Nieuport 17 & 3 Camels versus 4 Dr.Is & an Albatros D.III.

Nice but took a little bit planing time.

Normally never more than 2 per side but once just for fun and because no one else turned up due to bad weather played 5 v 6 game ,even with 2 very quick explosion cards it took ages to play.

Largest two player game was 6 aircraft: 4 scouts & 2 two-holers. Largest multiplayer engagement was 6v6... all scouts. Largest solo game was 15 kites: 3x Dr.1, 2x Albatros D.III, 2x Albatros D.Va, 3x Camel, 2x SE5a, 2x N.17, 1x R.E.8.

That took a bit of doing.

2 planes - 1 vs 1

Not much, but always interesting!

WW2, 2 x planes each. Much esier to play in WW2 and makes for a good game pilot and wingman. Though will play 3 x bombers at a time.

Wait... 2 planes each, 3 bombers?

And we have a winner!!! Can anyone top that?

I voted 2-3 as we used 2 each. More than that I feel its more a headache than a game.:p

Bobit yes I do fly 2 x fighters or 3 x Bombers in WW2 as most of your moves for the second (and 3rd) plane are dictated by what the lead plane does

For WGF I always fly one aircraft per player (exception - flights of bombers where all aircraft follow the leader and will not break formation).

For WGS I do pretty much the same thing as Doug. Each player gets an 'element' to control, which will vary depending on the air force and date.

For instance the RAF flew their fighters in 3 aircraft sections until 1941 when they went to fighting pairs. The Luftwaffe and USN fighters always flew in pairs, whilst the Japanese, Russians and Italians also flew in 'vics' of three. Dive and level bombers I will run in three-ship flights or 'Ketten'. I will generally play one card for all aircraft in the element until circumstances dictate otherwise when I will replicate the section leader's console and go from there.

Hmm. Interesting.
I just do like 3 planes per person WW1. I like the headache :cheezy:
Or maybe it's that I do missions rather than dogfights, so decisions are easier to make. I don't know.
I think it's interesting you guys do such complicated campaigns but with such simple scenarios though.

When I was running the big campaign we often had eight and sometimes more players at the table, so lack of participants wasn't an issue.

I just had to see all the old and new SPADS and Albatrosses on the table at one time. We had a 6v6 two player game. But it took over two hours to play and without any 'boom' cards, we settled for a German victory with just 3 SPADs and 2 Albatrosses shot down. We also did a 5v6 two player game using all the old and new Camels and Dr1's. Same results - 3 Camels and 2 DR1's downed after over two hours play.

Hunter and I attempted a 6 on 6 game once. Emphasis on ONCE. We found that it was extremely difficult to keep track of who was shooting at who, who took damage, and various other factors that popped up when the planes converged into one area. Keeping track of move restrictions was among those problems, along with forgetting gun jams and rudder jams. We eventually stopped the mission when we got so confused that we felt it compromised the integrity of the game and it's outcome. But it was a fun attempt at a large scale sortie. :)

:D Chris (halvo) & I have played one game with 4 each (WW1 Scouts) but mostly find max of 3 each is mush more manageable.
Quite OK to add a Balloon or two or have an AI Bomber do its thing.:cheezy:

I find I can keep pretty good track of two aircraft if they're different, like a Bf-109 and a Stuka. A common mission for us is to have the experienced Axis players run a fighter and a Stuka versus some newer players running Allied fighters. I tends to work out well.

Four a side, using the mini dot sticker system on the cards and bases to keep track of which plane was which.

Agreed. I've tried running more than one plane and it feels unsatisfactory and too much like hard work.
