Speaking of feeding my habit,
Are there Skype Gamers out there interested in a two-on-two or three-on-three WGF game on 23-24 March 2013? I can arrange to host a video conference call up to two hours long for up to 10 people, if they (we) all have Skype. We can be anywhere in the world, if some people don't mind playing in the middle of the night, or early morning. Please enter your info on the Skype Players Forum (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?13916-Skype-players-forum), and PM me if you want to try this.

Although now I live in this town's suburbs, Opole is the town I was born and brought up, however my parents found their home here after the war. It is a middle size town of south-west part of Poland but has a very unique, mostly German history which can be seen in almost every street. I love to explore it's history, searching for old monuments and buildings. The town benefits from it's multinational (German, Czech, Polish) cultural history and it's quite convenient to live and work in. I can truly say it is my "Heimat".:) Here you can see the canal bank that is called Opole Venice.
Born and raised in Manchester, studied in Sheffield. Live in Alkmaar (cloggieland).

The 13 hour drive is due to the moat (Strait of Georgia) and a few hills (Rocky Mountains). Straight line distance is only a bit under 500 miles / 750 kms. But you can't drive straight until you get over the hills, to the flat land in the Prairies.

I live in the upper left hand corner of Oregon. Astoria is the oldest American town on the west coast, founded in 1811, so that makes us young by some standards. My town is upriver from the mouth of the Columbia, but looking west I can see the bar of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean (graveyard of the Pacific, but aren't all bars graveyards of something?). Looking 4 miles due north I see 4 miles of water and then the other bank. The Columbia is indeed a wide river and once a guest asked us what that island was over there (it was the state of Washington). :)

:D I count myself lucky enough to live on 31 acres in a smallish (8000 Pop) Rural town on the South Coast of NSW about 2 1/2 Hours South East from Canberra where Zoe lives. I moved from Sydney over 20 years ago & have no regrets. We have an active Games Club, an Aerodrome, excellent Hospital, golf, bowling & tennis clubs & they play all types of sports. I back onto a National Park & the Great Dividing Range plays a backdrop to our river.

I am in beautiful Nashville, Tennessee, USA. (Think Davy Crockett and Alvin York) We are the "Athens of the South" because of the large amount of universities and colleges in the metro area.
A notable pilot from Nashville - Bob Hoover http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Hoover
Of course, once we had the Athens label, we had to do something to prove it. We reproduced a full scale Parthenon.

With Athena Parthenos (to complete the link)

If you saw the YA movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The lightning Thief, you saw this location as one of the major fights took place there.
We are also "Music City" with a large current music industry (Country, Bluegrass, Contemporary Christian) and our earliest known copy-written song (produced by the music industry in Nashville) from the late 1800's (not bad for the U.S. timeline). Of course, the main of our music industry was during the radio timeframe and after WWII.
Don't forget, we spawned two Presidents (Jackson and James K. Polk).

This is a postcard from the turn of the century, or thereabouts. Except for the unpaved roads it is a good representation of how things were forty-some years ago. The arrow locates my home. Looking at it further, it must be from the 20's. The Colony was not the Colony until 1926.

One of my most favorite places, though as the tourist, I didn't think it felt crowded at all. I guess it is a matter of perspective.

I find summer traffic very frustrating as you really have to plan around it. When you want to leave the Cape or come back over the bridge, driving any distance across the Cape as there are only 3 main routes, bad weather days when no one is at the beach and on the roads, the folks just driving through town to get to the island ferry... I just want my paradise to myself! No different than any tourist area when you are not in the tourist business I guess.

It's a small country but during sometime it had the megalomaniacal idea that it own half the world.
It's here:

In 2011 made 900 years old. Some people :hmm: think that Portugal is part of Spain... We're older than Spain...

People mostly come for the beaches. They are nice for local beaches but nothing compared to Pacific or Caribbean beaches. In my mind coral sand beaches are the best.

Koordinates: N53° 28.580 E009° 42.018 (https://www.google.de/maps/place/53%C2%B028'34.8%22N+9%C2%B042'01.1%22E/@53.5046015,9.7449327,11.75z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d53.4763333!4d9.7003)
Population: ~ 40.000
Buxtehude was established in 959 A.D. so it is over 1000 years old.
It is situated in an area called "Altes Land" (old land) where you will find all kinds of fruit plantation (mostly apple and cherry trees).

Buxtehude is also known for its fairy tale of the race between the hare and the hedgehog (similiar to the race between the tortoise and the hare).
That is why you find those symbols everywhere in our town.

I live in the beautiful Hudson River Valley about 90 miles North of New York City. The Valley runs from New York harbor and the Atlantic Ocean North deep into New York state. The River has a long maritime history from early Native Americans to Dutch and English 17th Century explorers, to Royal Navy expeditions during the American Revolution, to numerous ports for the whaling industry, to transport from New York to the Erie Canal for barge transport to Western New York, to today with cargo ships and cruise ships plying the waters. The Valley is a bona fide fjord. Here are a few images:
257430
257431
About 45 minutes South of my place is the U.S. Military Academy at West Point -- a REALLY cool place to visit (first class military museum, trophy point with captured ordnance, cadet chapel with battle flags, cemetery --Custer among others buried here, Rev War Fort Putnam, etc. etc.)
257432
The Valley is lined with mansions of the old blue blood and Noveau Riche of the Gilded Age such as the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, Astors, etc. One of my favorites (I walk on the grounds several days a week) is the Ogden Mills mansion called Staatsburg:
257433
And of course the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is about 30 minutes North of my place. There's a lot more but in the interest of space, I'll end it here.
