Do we have any members that are good a creative and descriptive writing? I need someone that can help write some short descriptions for our gaming events at Origins this year. Ares is wanting to run an article about them on their site, and I'd like for them to sound as good as possible.

Thanks!

Herr Oberst,
How do you like this description?

Action over Amien, or the Last Flight of the Red Baron. On March 21, 1918 Gen. Ludendorf launched the first of the offensives that have been called the "Kaiserschalft" offensives. These offensives were meant to disrupt and demoralize the Allied armies before the American army could get established and up to combat capability. Ludendorfs first offensive, Operation Michael, was launched against lines held by the British Fifth Army. The German Army drove the Britsih lines nearly 10 miles backwards during the first 3 days of the offensive and eventually drove 20 miles into Allied territory. However, by early April, British resistance stiffened partially due to Gen. Haig committing veteran Australian and Canadian units to the front. Ludendorf called off the offensive on April 5. A big problem still existed for the German army. Supply lines were long and over ground that had been torn up during 4 years of battle. German front line troops occupied hastily constructed shallow trenches while British troops occupied more secure positions. This situation did not go unnoticed by the RAF and the other Allied air services. German ground units were under daily strafing and bombing attacks and were taking tremendous casualties. Ludendorf ordered the Luftstreitekraft to stand firmly against the RAF and repel the air attacks. Unfortunately, the German air service no longer held the numerical superiority in this sector that it enjoyed in March. That was the strategic situation that Manfred von Richtofen flew into on April 21, 1918.

That sounds pretty good. It's a little long for what we need. Below is the details of one of the events, see what you can do with it...

Daring Rescue
Slot: Thurs 2000-2200
Complexity: Easy
Age: 8+
Experience: None
Every player gets a free miniature!
Player limit: 10

A top level French spy has managed to send word that he has vital Intel that can only be delivered in person. High Command has deemed it worth pulling him out of enemy territory. Will the Allies be able to rescue their spy, or will the dastardly Huns strike another well placed blow?

Lt. S.Kafloc

Daring mission for foolhardy and inexperienced flyers. You have 2 hours from takeoff to rescue a top level French spy who has vital intelligence that can only be delivered in person. Are you aged 8 or over? Can you complete this easy rescue? Can you foil the dastardly Hun? Your country needs you. First 10 volunteers only, survival not a prerequisite and a free miniature even if you don't complete the mission. What more can we say.

A very good idea. The text should be like a briefing before a sortie, short but descriptive, showing primary and secondary objectives, as well as victory conditions for both sides. Listeners should be hooked and engaged, ready to jump into action at once. A bit of authentic history and educational aspect would be welcome as well, without making the audience bored :)

ATTENTION ALL PILOTS: Volunteers are needed for a mission behind enemy lines. You are to rendezvous and extract a leading French spy with vital information for the Allies. This is a high priority mission, and the Germans want this spy STOPPED!!! Are you brave and bold enough to return with him!!?? Meet with the mission commander for your "WINGS OF GLORY"!!!

Timing is everything. Word had filtered down to the flightline that this operation was far from the usual contact patrol. A mixed bag of Allied aircraft – both scouts and two-seaters – have penetrated deep behind German lines, intent upon retrieving a top-level agent and the vital intelligence he carries. If all went as planned, you would have returned to the safety of your lines long before the Germans knew that you were there. But what, in war, ever goes according to plan? As your eyes pick out the steadily growing black shapes that can only be German scouts, you realize that the fate of the impending offensive, and the lives of thousands of your countrymen, hangs in the balance. Failure is not an option.

Throughout WWI, one of the vital roles that aircraft played was photo reconnaissance. Clear photos of the enemy's side of the lines could save thousands of lives on the ground during the assault. In this mission both sides are trying to photograph the area in advance of a large land engagement as well as deny the enemy access to the same information. Players can choose to fly the recon plane or one of the scout aircraft assigned to protect it and engage any other enemy aircraft.

JASTA Pilots! The Americans will be assaulting the Fatherland any day, and have brought their latest infernal device to aid in the attack: pilotless flying bombs! They intend to launch these devices at our main rail yards to keep supplies and re-enforcements from coming to blunt their attacks. You must catch and destroy these “Bugs” before they reach their targets. Be warned; the American Scout pilots will be trying to prevent you from succeeding. The Kaiser and the Fatherland are depending on your bravery and skill to prevail!
