This seems like an interesting twist on recon.

FYI - If you don't want to bring dice into the game (or don't have access to any), you could shuffle an explosion card in with 11 other damage cards and draw one. As long as you don't get the boom, you land alright. The percentages are almost the same (4+ on 2D6 = 91.66% ----- Chance of not drawing a certain card from 12 total cards = 91.67%).

It is just a choice that may remove the need for dice from the scenario. Either way, it looks like a fun one to play.

Nice option using cards to avoid rolling the "dreaded" dice!

Like it...

I've added; "Optional: If dice are not available, then shuffle an explosion card in with 11 other damage cards and draw one. As long as you don't exceed your total damage or get the "boom" card, you land successfully." to the last paragraph for "successfully" completing a mission

Our gaming group played this the other night and probably need to add an amendment. When they aircraft was flying over its target to photograph, we initially said the red dot in the center of the card must pass within the circle radius that's under the two-sweater (the firing arcs on the base). But that proved very challenging, so we added that it must pass over the card in straight and level flight.

Sounds like a good amendment... the "official" rules in the RAP say that the recon bird must pass within 1/2 range ruler (much less stringent a requirement than you played!) and play a "stall" maneuver card while doing so. Not so different at all than what you played... well done!
Oh, and the recon bird needs to be flying at altitude level 3 or less (if playing with altitude)! :)

We're still exploring the new rules. But, we all dropped in altitude but not for the sake of the rule, but in order to shoot any would be Attacker. Because our two-sweater's blind spot is below and behind. Similar to Richthofen's war

No doubt. ;) It's one of the reasons we always play with some form of Archie. Otherwise, two-seaters are more than likely to hug the terrain in an attempt to protect their blind spot. Once Archie is a reality, altitude becomes your friend. You're high enough... and far away enough... you've got some measure of safety. And you can always dive in an attempt to escape! It's really tough to out-climb a scout!
