It's 04.30 am on 4th June, with sunset on their backs a part of the Agaki Squadron, 352nd Kokutai, Carrier Sōryū, 2nd Carrier Division begins its attack against the US airport located in Sand Island - Midway Atoll.

American radar picked up the enemy at a distance of several miles and interceptors were soon scrambled. There goes the siren that warns of the air raid and soon a squadron composed by 2 Grumman F4F-3, 1 Grumman F4F-4 and a 1 Curtiss P-40F Warhawk take off trying to intercept enemies.
After few miles the first encounter with Flying Lieutenant Sakai’s Mitsubushi A6M2 Reisen “Zero” and the machine guns start with their music!!

The Aichi D3A1 “Val” fly in compact formation and start to take care of US fighters that crosses their way to the airport too. And Pilot Officer Iyozoh Fujita shoot the first enemy down. “よくやった”(Nice Job) the Admiral says on the radio and the other members of the Agaki Squadron feel like ancient gods of vengeance!!

On their left Flying Lieutenant Iwamoto with his Mitsubushi A6M2 Reisen “Zero” take care of the rest of US squadron.

Suddenly a Grumman F4F-4 evades the “Zeros” and try help the helpless “Warhawk” which is sent to feed sharks.

The “Vals” begin to see theirobjective nearer and hopes increases the Officer’s morale.

The remaining “Wildcats” try to bypass the Agaki Squadron and fight them from the backside, but Flying Lieutenants Iwamoto and Sakai arrives in the mess and give their best: Iwamoto move to their blindsides and firing again shooting down one plane, the crewman in Pilot Officer Suganami left a single burst finishing what Sakai has started.

With no opponents at all the Agaki Squadron is free to fulfill their mission and returning to the Sōryū even with "Vals" heavily damaged.

Unfortunately I have no mats rapresenting ocean, so I decided to play on the reverse surface of the original mats adding a printed version of Sand Island. Anyway, my Squadron overhelmed US force and, with a little luck I menaged to bring all the bombers back to the carrier.
