Crew have proceeded though passport control with no mishaps.
Apologies in advance for my poor efforts at photography :( I'll get pics and they'll be on their merry way by Friday.
I did notice a few missing items, no "Good luck" charm!!! What crew would leave the ground without one??
Decided to give the crew a "lucky rabbits foot", long story short, I "zigged" the rabbit "zagged" so they have a sprig of "White heather" instead...
I have also stocked the "In-flight mini bar"

I know that Australia are very keen on this, so if Gaz is agreeable I will replace his heather with a little Lincoln imp pin badge when it gets to me. They were very popular as lucky charms during WW2 with the Bomber pilots working out of Lincolnshire airbases, so do have some credence.
Rob.
Didn't think about customs, my bad!

Rob, sounds like a plan. Gaz, I'd be worried about leakage as well regarding the liquid refreshment. If Gaz is OK with this, Rob would you mind removing that as well and returning it to Gaz?
But nice thought anyway :thumbsup::clap:
Don't bother returning them, would cost more in postage that they are worth!
Is there any way to add them back once the tour is over?

If US customs opens it and finds alcohol in it, it's a goner for sure. My personal suggestion would be for us not to add anything to this as it makes it's round.

How are the U.S. customs on very small bottles of Penguin's urine Keith? It was a very long flight from Scotland you know, and they had just consumed a bottle of Scotch.

That would indeed be the to handle it. That way the sender pays the shipping costs and the Drome would cover the final grand shipping costs at the end.

Indeed, a couple of members have offered to donate items and I've asked them to send them direct to Keith, either to use as part of the raffle prize with the plane, or as a separate prize.
On a slightly different note, given the nightmare that is Royal Mail over Chrimbo, I will ask whoever has the Caproni on about the 10th December to hang on to it until after the Christmas holidays - just to be safe.
And jolly decent of Rob to return the bottle to Gaz.

Penguins touched down in South Bucks on 7 Dec, preceded by a front of (ant)arctic wx which must have slowed their progress south from Notts in IMC. Well done to the Nav! Quite fortunate that their crate would have been used to cold flights over the Alps too, so a good dusting of snow here probably felt quite familiar to all concerned.
While WWII-related sites abound in this area, there's very little that's photogenic on the WWI side, so a short road trip was required this afternoon to get them back 'in the mood'.
After presentation with RFC shoulder titles, the Caproni and crew have now been refuelled in anticipation of their departure for the West Country on Monday (wx permitting), where I assume they will overwinter.

The first and only VC awarded to an Australian airman in World War I, McNamara's decoration was promulgated in the London Gazette on 8 June 1917:
War Office, 8th June, 1917.
His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Victoria Cross to the under-mentioned Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Men:
Lt. Frank Hubert McNamara, Aus. Forces, RFC
For most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during an aerial bomb attack upon a hostile construction train, when one of our pilots was forced to land behind the enemy's lines.
Lt. McNamara, observing this pilot's predicament and the fact that hostile cavalry were approaching, descended to his rescue. He did this under heavy rifle fire and in spite of the fact that he himself had been severely wounded in the thigh.
He landed about 200 yards from the damaged machine, the pilot of which climbed on to Lt. McNamara's machine, and an attempt was made to rise. Owing, however, to his disabled leg, Lt. McNamara was unable to keep his machine straight, and it turned over. The two officers, having extricated themselves, immediately set fire to the machine and made their way across to the damaged machine, which they succeeded in starting.
Finally Lt. McNamara, although weak from loss of blood, flew this machine back to the aerodrome, a distance of seventy miles, and thus completed his comrade's rescue.

Filton airfield is now closed I believe, but Maybe Dave can use the SS GB as Filton is closer, Ill check the weather and let you know :)

Don't worry, you take the GB, I'll head for Gloucester (as I'm in God's Wonderful Realm now I ought to use an example close to home - its a pity the aero collection at Staverton is closed at the moment (but for good reason - they have at last got approval to build the new air museum there!), bit I might try to get a long to their restoration hangar (could be a problem though, they don't like piccies for anything other than personal use, and publishing on the internet, even in a forum like this, might annoy them)
If not I have several other ideas :D

You chaps are spoilt for choice down there what with the Suspension Bridge, the RAC tower and Tyndall Monument ,Cheltenham Pump rooms, Gloucester Cathederal etc.
I had a choice between Albert Ball, Robin Hood, and Hucknall Aerodrome. Even Rolls -Royce is in Derby, and they have demolished the Royal Ordnance Factory.
Rob.
Just remembered there is a long nosed restaurant at Filton, if not moved and can get close enough
Thanks for the update and look forward to news on the progress. And all have a Happy New Year.

i think a lot of this is traditional British moaning. I posted and received masses of mail over Christmas, no problems with anything, speedy service :)
reminds me of a trip on the Paris Metro a few years back. Me, a Dutch colleague and a Frenchman. Train was delayed for half an hour due to points failure. Frenchman complained that French trains were rubbish, not as good as British and Dutch. Dutch bloke said what are you talking about, ours are crap, Brits are great". I was astounded (but quietly thinking how good the Dutch ones were!)
Not a patch on Swiss trains though. No-one else comes close :D

French post is good but a tad expensive The postman can still track down an address in a village with no house numbers and if you leave your mail to be posted next to the box he will take them backto the PO for you.

I'm definitely with Rob on this one! Just found out that a parcel from Fantasy Flight Games has been sitting with ParcelFarce since 6th December, but was sent back to the States yesterday as it was not collected. The reason it was uncollected? Because the lazy b*****ds couldn't be bothered to put a note through my letterbox telling me that they had it. Sorry that happened to you as well Steve. Both I and my son Jim have had that happen to us because some clutz did not put a note through, Mine went back Stateside and his order of High Speed steel went back to Norway, and that cost a pretty penny to send back here again.
It would not be so bad if they read the note that always accompanies my order to say if out deliver to No 14 where the elderly lady is always in, but they don't.
the best one was one day when i sat painting in the room overlooking the street, saw the van pull up, write the note and put it through without even trying to ring or knock. By the time I got to the door the van was at the end of the road.
However, in support of my local mail postman, I can say that he is admirable. He will even wave the car down as we leave the estate if he has a package that is too large for the mailbox, or something he thinks is important.
Rant over because I can see him coming across the road as I type this.
Rob.
I sent a package to someone in the room in Europe and it also came back to me as uncollected. He never replied that he even heard it was in this Post Office.

Rob.
Ok chaps, the Caproni has today been for a visit to Filton Airfield, which was a wartime base, here it has been pictured with another Fameous aircraft.
This week it will be leaving Bristol and heading to a deepest Gloucestershire.
Unfortunately there has been a week of delay , as well as the Xmas & New Year holidays, a touch of illness as well as weather and real life taking a slice ofmy time.
But the journey begins again.Pics will be posted shortly

[Engage lie mode, lie mode engaged]No guesswork involved. Mission control in Basildon knows exactly where it is at any time [Disengage lie mode]
It was only because of the extended stay in the West country over Xmas (and the fact that the penguins had to go to Weightwatchers to lose the Xmas pounds/kilos they put on before they could take off) that made progress a bit hazy to everyone.
But as Chris says, it's on its way again, one more UK stop and then it heads for Europe. France first, where apparently Tikkifriend's postie is so good you don't need to give a house number, just the name of the village :hmm:. And:
if you leave your mail to be posted next to the box he will take them back to the PO for you.
Paul
Yeah, if we leave ours by the post box, it disappears as well.:D
I would tell you the route after that, but the company internet has blocked me getting at my message box on the grounds that it contains "gaming" - well, duh! I'll have a look tonight when I get on my own computational machine.

It will be great to follow the Spring progress of the penguins as they migrate South for the Antipodean winter.
At least they will be to late to get co-opted into water bombing the Bush fires, which hopefully are dying down now.
Thanks for the update.

Right, now at home with a sensible computer (or as sensible as it can be with Windows 8) and I see that the European order was not finalised (other than France). So I have asked the Commanding Officer to pull the country names out of my Buckeye Gamers mug, and the running order is: France > Sweden > Germany > Belgium > Poland. Unfortunately this lumbers Andrzej with the cost of sending it to New Zealand. Andrzej if that's a problem, let me know.
After NZ it's Aus, Canada and the U.S.

The Caproni has just flown in to Staverton Airport, Gloucester. Despite the snow and bad weather (and snowploughs on the runway) she made a perfect landing. We see her ehere on final approach.

Following a quick refuel (and a cup of tea at the Aviator Cafe) the Caproni made a quick flight in formation for her official photocall with the Vulcan that lives here (we'd hoped for the Javelin, as a local made aircraft, but she's been moved in preparation for the opening of the new air museum here), before making her preps for the flight over the Channel to la belle France! Her intrepid crew of DJ-wearing avians is awaiting a break in the weather, but hopes to be in the air again very soon.

Right then, As I needed to get the route sorted out so Linz can work his magic, I had to get SWMBO to randomly select the whole of the route in one hit. So, lots of bits of paper drawn from my Buckeye Gamers mug later, this is the order after leaving France:
Sweden - Niclas (Akersberga)
Germany - Marechallannes (Zirndorf)
Belgium - Bluedevil (Zaffelare)
Poland - Nightbomber (Kepa)
Australia
Xen (Victoria)
Pbhawkin (NSW)
Gully-Raker (NSW)
Doug (Queensland)
New Zealand - Linz (Dunedin)
Canada
Canuck (Ontario)
Grumpy Bear (Alberta)
USA - (I tweaked the random draw slightly to group members in the same state)
Kahlerclan (Florida)
Wargamer (Florida)
Lloydthegamer (Oregon)
CSADN (Oregon)
Beer&Pretzels (Illinois)
The Cowman (Ohio)
Clipper 1801 (Arizona)
Pandemonium (NY)
LewdDude (NY)
BobP (Maryland)
BSmith13 (Utah)
Last but not least - Oberst Hajj (Colorado)
Linz - I'll PM you with more exact destinations later
As a ballpark, by the time it got to Tikkifriend in France I reckon it had done just over 1700 miles as the penguin flies
Lloydthegamer (Oregon)
CSADN (Oregon)
Where in Oregon is Lloyd?
Also: Having to make the "broad reaches" from FL to OR, or OH to AZ, is going to put shipping costs and time up. It would make a bit more sense to shorten up the "flights", for ex. thus:
Beer&Pretzels (Illinois)
The Cowman (Ohio)
Pandemonium (NY)
LewdDude (NY)
BobP (Maryland)
Kahlerclan (Florida)
Wargamer (Florida)
Clipper 1801 (Arizona)
Lloydthegamer (Oregon)
CSADN (Oregon)
BSmith13 (Utah)
and finally to Oberst Hajj (Colorado).
Another possibility, if shipping from anywhere in Canada to anywhere in the US is going to be nightmarish to begin with:
Kahlerclan (Florida)
Wargamer (Florida)
BobP (Maryland)
Pandemonium (NY)
LewdDude (NY)
The Cowman (Ohio)

We could certainly do something like that. I am going to take some coastal photos. Unfortunately, only the Tillamook Air Museum is associated with flight. Once I get a few shots out here I could make the trek over mountain to your neck of the woods. We'll have to do some serious planning once the model hits Oregon.

It will be good to look forward to marking its progress rather than worrying if it is up to speed. The recipients will be able to savour the moment that it passes through, rather than having to rush their photographs.
Rob.
Great idea Clipmeister. Got another idea, when the penguins get to you, I'll set up a big meet at our FLGS and invite the Tucson gang and as many of the AZ pilots and get a big squadron photo too!

If you give me the flight plan I could work it out.

Can we do something with Google Earth to show the route?

Sorry chaps, I'm against a premature raffle, the reason being that if the thing goes missing in action en route then we have all the faff of returning all the raffle money.
For example, the thing should have touched down in Sweden around the 11th, but there is no sign of it yet.
Mission control out!

On a slightly different tangent, if it shows up here in the great northwest I will probably take it to the Enfilade convention as a "show stopper". That would be our Memorial Day in May. Maybe I could get it an "honored guest" status. I hope Chris shows up there too, not to mention Tony and the other dromers from the northwest.

There's a possibility for a "grand tour" -- show it at Enfilade, then mass-movement to Evergreen A&S for a shot with the Spruce Goose, then wherever else it might want to be photo'd, before sending it on its way again.

Whats all that white stuff on the ground?
As for the crew going lost like Earhart on us, we could still bind up the photos and do a digital log with maps, routes and memories and don't forget the millions the film might bring in on the rescue search . . . maybe get Disney to make it an animated film!? The History Channel is getting very desperate for material . . . Clipper still recovering from a weekend of 12-16 year olds . . . Stockholm sounds good . . .
I am partway through the flight plan with distances marked and refueling stops between destinations.
Andrzej can you attach a couple of 200L drums of fuel and a 25L drum of oil into the bomb bay to extend the planes range.
It will cut down on the bomb load but after all we come in peace.

Not only don't those boys have no parachute, their wings don't work either.

Now leaving Swedish airspace, and after a low, slow pass (is there any other way with a Peroni - err, Caproni) over Stockholm, the penguins are heading for Germany.

The white stuff fell, but did not stick! It got down into the 30's late in the afternoon, but climbed back up to the mid 50's by dinner time. Today we are sweltering at 68, got the shop cleaned out and killed the weeds and bugs in the yard. Making room for some big visitors over the weekend . . .

I am pleased to announce that the Penguins have landed safely at the Zaffelare airbase this afternoon! :):):)
