Finally found some time to test out the new bombers. With the automatic rules for a bomber posted on the forum here (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/showthread.php?12364-Wings-Of-Glory-WWII-Scenarios&p=178068#post178068) I set up a quick solo mission. Two Bf109 hunting down a loaded B25.

This was the starting setup.

65307

The bomber moves straigt forward at slow speed due to its load. Both fighters close in fast and are in the firing range. The bomber receives some heavy damage with two C tokens of 6 points each. The dorsal gunner fires at the closest fighter and gives it a 3 point damage with an A token.

65306

The left Bf109 clearly afraid to engage continues straight forward at slow speed but the other one turns right for a second shot at the bomber. The burst from close range is very effective giving it an extra 9 points of damage. The dorsal gunner also replies fire from close range but could only deal out 2 points of damage.

65305

Both Bf109's turn sharp to the right but none of them is in a position to fire at the bomber. The dorsal gunner of the bomber can fire at the white Bf109 but missed.

65304

Only the white Bf109 is close enough to fire and after a third turn to the right it is in an ideal position to fire a second time at close range. A total of 11 damage points means the bomber is going down. The dorsal gunner keeps on firing at the fighter and deals out another 4 points of damage but it is to late as the bomber is already losing altitude.

65303

The final result. The second fighter only fired once at the bomber and was never been shot at. It could been left out with the same result only to stretch the life of the bomber with only one or two turns.

65308

This was a very short game and I guess with some Yak's in the game the odds could be a bit more even. But just one bomber hunted by fighters is a closed case...

Now *this* is what German Fighters were designed for doing -- shooting down big, slow, undergunned targets.

I've been doing some solitaire tests, now that I finally have my bombers, and I have found much the same as you did -- and in my case, I gave the bombers access to the ventral guns as well. Single or double A and B draws cannot match a C or D draw.

Great ARR, Thomas.

Nice planes & good pictures.

I think altitude rules (...or an escort) give you more time to outmaneuver two enemy fighters.

In this scenario an emergency bomb drop would be the best decision.

A very interesting simulation and comments chaps.
I am picking up quite a lot of interesting information about the merits and failings of these WWII aircraft.
Thanks for the AAR Thomas.
Rob.

You are, as I am really just an armchair pilot when it comes to WWII.
I have only flown two sorties against Stormkahn. That is the sole experience I have with DoW.
