My new B25C was bought to be repainted and that is finally finished. The scheme is based on a Russian lend-lease B25. Not 100% historically correct because its a B25C but it will do fine for gaming together with the Yaks.

The reference painting scheme

Decals are homemade except for the yellow numbers on the tail fins. I put red stars on both wings which looks a bit nicer.

A very nice repaint. The plane made me think of the B-25 that landed in the Soviet Union after the Doolittle Raid, the crew being interned as the Soviet Union was a "neutral" in regard to Japan although it was one of our allies against Germany. I did a little research and found a theory about the landing that I had not heard before...the Aircraft was on a secret mission along with the raid. The last surviving crew member, Nolan Herndon, before his death gave a compelling argument for the theory. Here is a link:

Inspired by Tomatchef I also had to have a go at repainting the B25c's as Russian (well Neville did) I also used the B25c as I got them but could not make up my mind in which theater to use them

Great repaints! Where or how did you find/make the noseart?

Doug
01-06-2013, 03:21
The nose art is from Flames of War 15mm Russian vehicles decals. Also I use the French Decals as well for nose art for any non Russian Aircraft.

How did you make the gun pods and the aft bulb on the tail?

The pods and tail gunners position I shaped from sheet styreen. After searching of the web for pictures I found sufficient info to come up with what you see. Also note that these were installed after the factory finished the plane. So variations could well be found.

Thanks guys, and they sit beautifully on those WOG bomber bases. Now working on Heinkel III bombers. Nothing like creating a bigger presence on the games table!

Wow, those russian B-25s in the OP are awesome!

I do 1/144 scale, and I collect the bombers in threes. When I did these, the only option I had was Minicraft B-25s.

http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=105961&d=1377540122 (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/album.php?albumid=2497&attachmentid=105962)

They have this kit with the option to build it as the solid nosed gunship, I would love to do a trio like that someday! I did these up as Doolittle Raiders despite them being the wrong model...B-25Js here (?), can't remember.

All I remember when I did these, was that just finding the decales for the paint version I wanted to do them as, was tough. Let alone having the upper turret in the wrong spot (for what I was painting them as), waiste guns and the forward firing .50s.

Murphy's Law: Right soon after I built these, F-Toys comes out with Doolittle B-25s...geeze. LOL!

this was a conversion/repaint of the bauer b-25 to a 75mm gun nose b-25. i call her thunderbird. this was my 1st repaint/modeling attempt in many years so it was frustrating as well as rewarding as my skills atrophied as well as loss of visual acuity and steadiness of hands. oh well, it is what it is.Name: DSCF1925.jpg
186101186102186103186104186105

i amputated the nose and filled it. added 4 .50 cal muzzles and drilled out and added a 75mm muzzle. i added 2 duel .50 cal blister cheek packs, i moved the turred forward, i added the waist bulges, and finally, lopped off the clear tail and added a tail position by putting the clear "cone" up on top of the tail unit.

Update my first post. It looked sad so I reworked the bad nose glass joints. It turned out much better so I did a couple more for a flight of three.

My first of 3 planned B25D Mitchell gunship builds. I used the 1:200 Trumpeter kit as a base. The clear styrene used certainly increases the level of difficulty for 56 year old eyes.

Finally got around doing these, but here they are, my North American B25-C Mitchells ...

287824

287825

287826

287827

287828

I painted them to represent aircraft of N0 18 Squadron NEIAF, which operated from mid 1943 out of Batchelor Field, near Darwin, Northerh Territories, Australia. They made a name for themselves with their successfull attacks against Japanese shipping using the "skip-bombing" technique. Alas resulting in quite a few losses for the squadron.

The models are from Merit Models aka Trumpeter (which depict the B25-C in its most used configuration without the ventral gun-turret).

And a picture of the cover of the book on No 18 Sqn NEIAF (Het Vergeten Squadron - The Forgotten Squadron), written by Lkol René Jonkheer Wittert van Hoogland

Hi Phillip,
glad you like my efforts !
The red-white-blue markings represent the Dutch flag. It replaced the orange triangle the Dutch airplanes (in The Netherlands Airforce as well as in the Netherlands East Indian Airforce) used from 1939 till mid Febrary 1942). The markings shown here were used by the NEIAF till 1946/1947.

I still hope someone will be willing to make a card for my B-25C's.
cheers,
Guus :salute:
