Two good books to get you into the feel of the period Roland, are Peter Hart's "AcesFalling" and "On a Wing and a Prayer" by Joshua Levine.
A good book for a general overview of aircraft types is"Aircraft of World War I" by Jack Herris and Bob Pearson. After that any of the "Osprey" books for a more detailed overview of certain types.
You can also find titles and reviews here.
