I didn't find anything historically specific - it was more of a gestalt of all the ones I'd been looking at and just seemed to fit. I'll have to check out the 1/144 Direct since I wanted to do the "lift here" but didn't feel I could do it justice.

Gully_Raker - they are Skytrex

For reference here`s a couple of photo`s of one of the planes covered by the FOTG cards.
No 1 (Australian) squadron based at Haifa.
Serial no was apparently C9560 and it was the only HP O/400 the squadron had so it didn`t have any id lettering.6974969750
By the looks of things it was covered overall in PC10 so it should be a fairly easy paint job to do and a couple of the model photo`s already posted are a pretty good match!

I've (finally:p) finished my Shapeways Handley page bomber...

I'm not entirely satisfied with the result, althoug it looks better "in the flesh" than on the pictures because of reflection of the flash...

The decals are 1/144 Direct bought on Ebay.

:D Hi Alex! Mate were you trying for the NUVO Night Camo colour or is the colour darker due to camera lighting?
Nice job anyway.

Looks fine to me except for looking a bit glossy which I guess is down to the photo.
Now if I can just get a decent photo of my recent Skytrex aquisition.
So far the results have not been good,7354673547

Some slightly better pics I`ve managed to get later.

I think that some of the additional strut work round the engines is more visible.:fixit:

The base by the way came from LITKO though they seem now to have dicontinued the specific WoW/WoG bases and are currently only doing generic ones.
It may have something to do with their standard pegs not being strong enough for a heavy model like the Skytrex/Red Eagle O/400 or Staaken though I`ve not had any bother with my `Bloody Paralyser`.
This may be because I didn`t use the standard peg supplied but adapted the base to take a modified Ares bomber peg!

Bluedevil

I know...It is glossy... ;)
It still needs a spray of matt varnish but it is too cold in the garden shed to start spraying now, so I took the pictures anyway...

To be honest most of my models end up here before the matt varnish...(gives me an excuse for the mistakes :p:p:p)

About your pictures: if you put your model against a blue or white background it would "jump" out more:thumbsup:

@Barry...That was the plan but it didn't turned out the way I intended and the picture doesn't capture the real color either. It's more like a (very) dark Kakhi ( I mixed it while comparing to pictures of other models I found on the net).

Thanks :)
I did not find any image except one that show me the plane after he was captured.
I also know that this plane crashed a few timer later because of a maintenance error made by the Germans :(

Serial: s/n.1463
Britain made a present of one of the first Handley Pages to Germany. O/100, No.1463 flown by the RNAS on 1st January 1917 en route to Paris, landed on the first airstrip seen after breaking cloud. It was at Laon... 12 miles behind enemy lines. Among the German evaluation pilots was famous Manfred von Richthofen.

Just watched "Today We Live" a 1933 movie.

After obtaining General Douglas MacArthur's help in reserving March Field in California, individual aerial sequences were shot although footage from Howard Hughes' Hell's Angels (1930) including the bomber mission, the "dogfight" sequence complete with the head-on collision of two aircraft, was merged into the final production print.

It showed the co-pilot go to the forward gun. Interesting.

Great models nicely painted.

They're all awesome, I love the movie. In regards to going heavy on the varnish, I here very controlled use of a hairdryer works, although I've never had to try the method myself. You could just go with gully's answer, it works for me.

I have some questions.

Where to find some crew for the shapeways model? Which are best fit etc.

Decals wise, can anyone identify C9707, C9709 & C9711?

Some nice paint jobs here! Great work :D

Re: lettering and numbers, I found the following in "British Aviation Squadron Markings of WWI" by Les Rogers:

No. 100 Sqn RFC

No squadron markings, no individual markings but "several aircraft had skull and crossbones pained on the nacelle nose below the bomb bracket. (This was later used as a squadron badge between the wars.) Most aircraft were painted in dark colors and may did not carry cockades."

"In September 1918, the long promised o/400s started to arrive and built up to a strength of ten, organized in two flights of five. Again no squadron marking was used but individual markings were used. The O/400s were marked with a large white number in front of the fuselage cockade. The sequence is unknown, but was probably "1" to "5" in one flight and "6" to "10" in the other."

Included is a picture of a O/400 with a large "4" (covers fuselage from top to bottom) forward of the fuselage cockade. View is of the left side, so I don't know whether the number occurred on both sides but I would think so.

No. 207 Sqn RAF

No squadron markings. Shows picture of o/400 D5422 with "3" on the nose. Hard to see but seems to be about 3/4 of size of nose, starting at bottom and ending 3/4 from bottom. "3" looks to be white.

No. 216 Sqn RAF

No squadron markings were used. But planes were marked by "flight letter and individual number on fuselage either side of the cockade. One flight used red outlined white and another flight used blue outlined white." There is one picture of O/400 but I cannot see any flight markings, but there are three pictures of O/100s, and each has a letter and a number. Size and position varies.

Color plate in the back shows o/400 of 100 Sqn without any numbers or letters.

Hope this helps.

Nothing can escape your eyes, Rob!
I wanted to weather the plane somewhat, as I found the first one too clean-looking. I made the mistake of lightening my PC10 base with white... with the results you noticed: the colour is more greyish than it ought to be.
And to think I was so happy with my PC10 mix.:(

05-06-2014, 03:33
Hi Eric, as PC10 weathers, it goes brownish, add some red to your initial black/yellow mix, and apply it thinned with water over a CDL coloured base layer.
I found this out by happy accident.
Good luck experimenting:thumbsup:
