Da Nang Diary Author:
Col. Tom Yarborough ISBN:
0-312-92616-2 Category:
Autobiography Format:
Paperback Summary:
This is a well written account of one year flying FAC missions in Viet Nam. Yarborough flew mission mostly along the Ho Chi Minh trail at the beginning of his tour, but was invited to fly Prairie Fire missions inserting and extracting SOG troops in Laos and other equally nasty spots. He writes about some pretty hairy mission and close calls. Yarborough does a great job writing about the mechanics of flying, searching, and calling in missions. He makes it clear enough that even a non-flyer like myself was able to understand it. This book is unique in that it covers a section of air war that doesn't get much coverage. The fighters and bombers get most of the press, but it was pilots like Yarborough flying down at tree top level who found and pinpointed the enemy.
