Bravo: nicely played, particularly the G.IIIa in echelon right, though I would have though Balkenkreuz rather than Eisernekreuz would have been more typical. Shapeways?

You are quite correct. I did find some photos of G.IIIa with a combination of both cross styles. I just opted for the earlier for continunity. It is a shapeways but with heavy mods. Took wing off and installed new struts thickened the fuselage. Did find that you must deal with the fuzz even if you do a complete decal job.

A Friedrichshafen FF49c in late war naval hex camouflage (which is very fiddly on the lower wings).
I didn't add the hex pattern to the tops of the floats, as was the case in the few pictures that I could find online (I'd had enough). The aircraft number is also fictitious, but roughly in the range of numbers seen on the pictures and photos (I only had 1, 2 and 3 in that size).
Apologies for some of the photos being blurred, I it appears I had the shakes :-(
However the blurring of the hexes does illustrate how effective the camouflage was :-)

Hope I'm not uploading too many pics at once, but I've found some good examples of aircraft to use as painting guides, here, so felt I should reciprocate :-)

Here is a Freidrichshafen FF33 just ready for use. I'm not sure about the varnish coat though it seems to be going opaque as I write.

Great looking bird Tim.
The bloom you mention may be because of the damp weather. Try an overspray in a warm dry environment.
Rob.

Thanks guys.
The varnish seems to be getting more transparent now but Bob you are right. I'll use the overvarnishing trick and keep my fingers crossed.
I stopped using acrylic varnish on wargames figures because of a bad case of blooming and now I use solvent based varnish for those. However aircraft have transfers that may disolve depending on the type of inks. Mixing and matching transfer types can be the cause of disaster with solvents.
I really should get consistent about what I do and write it down.
Too much 'flying by the seat of my pants' for my own good.

Sweet GIII Paul.

Lozenge decals on the underside too. That was tricky as I had 2 of the 1/144 direct sheets and thought I had enough. So I’m mix and matching bits thinking I’m okay until I realize I under estimated and there’s a whole section in the middle of each side of the upper wing without a lozenge decal. Fortunately mehusia had just one sheet left. I got the 3rd sheet Friday.

Nice to have a reason to bump up the Friedrichshafen thread. Hmmmm…..now that I have the Jack Herris Friedrichshafen book, I should try to get my value out of it with a couple of float planes or even a land version. FF37 for a German pusher type airplane?

That's not half bad Chris, I see you went for the slimline floats to cut down on the drag. ;) but I'm not sure they will have the same amount of buoyancy as my balsa floats.

Hope you don't sink on landing.
Cheers

Where did you gat the Gotha maneuver & aircraft cards?

malachi
10-10-2021, 09:25
Gotha is XD deck, but thanks for mentioning that -- I noticed the maneuver deck is wrong on my card and base image from the unofficial stats I quoted.:smack: Should be an XC deck, although most of the card images I found show XB. The Handley-Page bomber pack comes with the XB deck.

I store my cards separately but keep an inventory list. Unfortunately, I have no idea where my XC decks came from.

malachi
10-11-2021, 13:49
Made a new card (adapted from a Guntruck card) and base using the XC deck.
