I am new to the game and played three different sessions on three different nights in the last few weeks. My young boys and I are playing a "phoney war" mini campaign leading up to the battle of France, which will be a longer campaign. They are flying Hurricanes in our fictious 651 Squadron, which in currently stationed near the borders of Belgium, France, Lux. and Germany.

Blue 2 and Blue 3 were patroling near the Franco/German border and encountered two 109s. Blue 2 was aggressive and quickly scored a victory. Blue 3 took severe damage on the initial contact and was smoking, things got worse and he eventually fled the board trailing smoke. Blue 2 took the other 109 down and returned to base with his second and third victories (he had a few in a practice game and we compromised that he could carry over one to our ongoing scenario).

The "phoney war" is over and Holland has fallen. Belgium is fighting a losing battle and forces are having to reteat. Blue 2 and Blue 3 are sent to provide air cover for Belgian forces retreating; who are experiencing a traffic jam at a key bridge. Two Stukas arrive to bomb the bridge and trap the Belgians. Blue was aggressive, as usual and dealt damage to one of the Stukas on a head-on pass. However, Blue 2 took damage coming and going. Blue 3 did the same, but with similar results and was smoking. As a result, Blue 3 returned to his more tentative ways; while Blue 2 attacked. The Stukas focused on bombing their targets, but one was shot down before completing a bombing run. The other expended both bombs, which missed, and tried to retreat off the board; but was shot down by Blue 3. Blue 2's tally was now at 4 and he was eager to be an Ace, though his Hurricane was shot to pieces and had 1 point left. Blue 3 was on the victory board, but was becoming frustrated.

The next "morning" Blue 2 and Blue 3 returned to the bridge to provide cover for the withdrawal of the last of the Belgian forces. Jerry had learned his lesson and sent a 109 to escort the two Stukas sent to destroy the bridge. The Stukas were approaching the target and lining up for there runs. The 109 stayed close to the dive bombers. Blue 2 and Blue3 charged in for a head-on pass. Blue 3 was now as aggressive as Blue 2. The pass disrupted the bombing runs, but dealt severe damage to the Hurricanes and Stukas.

Blue 2 aggressiveness had finally caught up to him and he was on fire. Blue 3 took engine damage and it looked like the young pilots from Blue Flight were in trouble. Blue 3 remained aggressive and shot down a Stuka on his own. Taking more damage, Blue 2 took a long turn to try to live through the fire and see where it sat after that. Blue 3 could only go slow so he stood in there against the remaining Stuka and 109. He shot down the last Stuka, which was previously damaged by Blue 2...a shared victory.

A relatively healthy 109 now tangled with "slow" Hurricane. The 109 and Blue 3 dealt some more damage and the Jerry decided it was time to go with no more Sheep to tend and out-numbered 2-1. With his fire out, the now emboldened Blue 2 rejoined the fray and the two Hurricanes got on the 109s "six". Even the "slow" Blue 3 was in position for long-range fire, while Blue 2 poured in on from short-range. With no smoke or fire, the 109 nosed into the field below. Blue 2 was now an Ace and has yet to pick a skill. Blue 3 has three victories and is eager to continue.

651 Squadron's airfield is going to come under attack as our final "phoney war" scenario and they will pull back further within France. I will run a few BoF scenarios, which I hope will buy us time for the He111 to be available; then it is on to tBoB.
