Max Immelmann

Enough has been written about Max Immelmann that I won't both re-creating or attempting to do so here as my attempt, I'm sure, would fail to do justice to the impact that he had on aerial combat.

On the morning of 2nd of March 1916 Immelmann recorded his 9th victory against a Morane BB.

The one thing that I found very interesting when I first started looking at WW1 aviation, however, was the Orden Pour Le Merite being referred to most commonly as the "Blue Max." This, as I have since found out, is named for it's distinctive blue color and for the fact that it was awarded to Max Immelmann one of the most famous German pilots of his time prior to the emergence of Richthofen.
