The categories used in the library are:
- 'GEN' for generic aviation and/or a subject which spans the two other categories,
- 'WGF' for WW1 and early inter-war (RCW),
- 'WGS' for WW2 and late inter-war (SCW), and
- 'ZZZ' for those subjects which fall outside the Wings of Glory canon.
A further sub-categorization within these 4 major categories provides:
- A Air power
- B Biography/autobiography
- C Campaign or battle
- D Doctrine or tactics
- E Equipment (aircraft and aerial weapons only: ships & tanks are covered under sea and land respectively)
- F Fiction (rather than the 'creative writing' of some biographies)
- G General history
- H Honours and awards
- I Insignia and badges
- L Land power (including equipment)
- M Markings and camouflage
- O Organization (eg, RFC, AFC, KuK)
- S Sea power (including equipment)
- U Unit history
- W Wrecks and archaeology
- Z Miscellaneous (ie, can't fit it anywhere else)
So, as an example, if you're looking for the biography of a WWI airman, it would be in WGFB.
Within those categories, individual titles are listed alphabetically; the only exception being a title which starts with a definite article, such as 'A' and 'The', in which case the listing is under the first noun or adjective (eg, 'The Red Baron' would be under 'R' rather than 'T').
For those who are posting new book reviews, please do not add a category to the title; just put in the title as it reads on the book. This cataloging action will be done by the Mod staff after you've posted.
It should be the default setting for this particular area, but if not done automatically: make sure your Thread Display Options (at the bottom of the page) has Sort Threads By with Thread Title and Order Threads In by Ascending Order.
Specialist publishers of aviation books have also been identified (in brackets after the title):
