As I've managed to get both my kids AND my wife to play WOW regularly I've been looking around for an idea of how to link our games together. The below is the germ of the idea and I would be interested if anyone has done something similar.
We're going to fight the war from April 1916 to the end by playing games for each month. There will be a player controlled British fighter squadron, 2 AI controlled British reconnaissance squadrons verus a player controlled German fighter squadron and 1 AI controlled German reconnaissance squadron.
Each fighter squadron will have 6 aircraft and 7 pilots assigned to it. To replace losses aircraft can be assigned that were historically available, so the Brits start with DH2s (handy that) and the Germans Fokkers (likewise).
Each turn (1 per month) equates to a game day and each side assigns aircraft to a task (recce, patrol, escort, standby etc) at a specific time of the day and then any combat takes place, we will probably not game attacks by scouts on lone recce aircraft but find a way of automatically resolving it. Will also figure a way out to get our French friends and other German units occasionally involved but the main aim will be to track the progress of the 2 fighter squadrons.
As we play once every few weeks this should take us through the next couple of years :-)
