Fire in the Skies
Scenario 1 (D-Day): He Who Runs Away Lives to
Český Brod, 31st March 2020
2:00, 1 player (Allied), 5 planes in total
Date of mission: 16th May 1940
Location: Troyes, Grand Est, France
Story: S/Ldr Tyson received aan order to evacuate whole squadron to Troyes town "per partes". His number to his recon Spitfire Mk.I was a young Sgt Truhlář in standard Hurricane Mk.I. They were attacked by three Me.109E during their way to the final destination. The fight begun, they could even hear cry of the babies on the ground... (OK, it was a real cry of my doughter during her tries to fall asleep upstairs). After several maneuvres, Sgt Truhlář was in fire caused by yellow nose Me.109E-4 (Galland himself?) and continuous fire from German cannons destroyed his Hurricane in the same moment when he and S/Ldr Tyson won over another Messerschmitt. Sgt Truhlář was marked as KIA. S/Ldr Tyson continued fighting with the rest two enemies and he shot down another one by deadly salvo. Yellow nosed Messerschmitt was too far behind his tail, so he headed to his target and escaped from the trap.
Axis Forces (AI): 1× Messerschmitt Bf.109 E-4, 2× Messerschmitt Bf.109 E-3
Allied Forces: 1× Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I, 1× Hawker Hurricane Mk.I
Axis victory conditions (AI): prevent escaping of BAFF
Allied victory conditions: escape to the standby airfield
Result: 2× Messerschmitt Bf.109 down + 1× Spitfire escaped = 3 points for Allies; 1× Hurricane down (+2) + 1× Spitfire damaged (14/17 HP; +1) = points for Germans ⇒ Draw
Uncertainties: Territory considered as no-mans land (= same modifiers as for sea; confirmed by Scafloc); how to calculate share kills?
Initial setup: Aircrafts enter the combat zone.
The first contact - Hauptmann Balthasar got a serious hits, S/Ldr Tyson evaded tightly the almost-the-last-bullet-you-will-ever-see.
Sgt Truhlář in crossfire from his enemies, yellow nose Messerschmitt aimed him perfectly and will continue with fire...
...and he set him fire. Both BAFF pilots fired on another Me.109 and got him down.
Unfortunately, Sgt Truhlář is killed few moments later by yellow nose attacker. S/Ldr Tyson hit the engine of the third enemy and slow him down.
The dark one Me.109 couldn't do an Immelman and started to turn right. Spitfire and leading Messerschmitt in combat with an important hit into cocpit of a German fighter.
Red Leader Tyson is heading to the east and intercepting slow Me.109.
And finally got him down from very close range. Pilot probably saw his enemy's fear in eyes.
The leading German is too far to catch fast Spitfire, S/Ldr escaped.
German loses.
Allied loses - unfortunately, Sgt Truhlář is KIA - bailing out of the plane in fire was too dangerous.
