Thread: A heavy Bomber reaches the Front.

Smile A heavy Bomber reaches the Front.

G'day All. Finally finished my S/ways H.P. 0/400 & would like to share some pics with you.
I must say the model was perfect, very crisp printing, great wings & no strata on the fuselarge.

I researched the colour schemes for the 0/400 on the two WW1 Historical Forums & it appears most HP 0/400's had their undersurfaces repainted at Squadron level in either PC 10 or Olive Green after one with CDL was shot down on a daylight bombing mission so I chose to paint mine all PC10.
My PC 10 is my home brew from P3 Battlefield Brown mixed with GW's Catachan Green. Struts & Props are GW Bestial Brown, inside cockpits GW Snakebite Leather to give a good contrast to the crew figures which are Peter Pig gunners & Reveresco pilot. I had to cut some plastic sprue to raise both gunners to the right height.

Decals are Doms on the side & the Wing Rondels were very kindly supplied by F/O Kyte via Rob. The ID letter is from one of Keiths decal sets & the tail stripes from one of Zoe's strips. The Aircraft was finished with GW's Matt Varnish to seal the decals & give a constant overall effect.
The Stand is Aerodrome Accessories & the Bomber Pegs are Shapeways by jbmareck.

Cant wait to try her out on a Mission to squash a German Aircraft Factory.

That's a nice look, big bird you have there. The WSF grain does not show up quite so bad on that large of a model. How did the pegs fit the base?

She looks a real treat Baz. I'm sure she will do you proud on your mission.
Kyte says thanks for the mention in dispatches.

I've got one of these waiting to be painted... Just out of curiosity I took a good look at it and although the grainy structure is definitely present, the detail is very good. You can even see the hinges on the ailerons.

I'm beginning to become a true fan of the Shapeways models... I think that the future of wargaming lies here.

Now if they only could get their act together to avoid (sending) the misprints to their customers...

So far I've ordered 3 batches of airplanes between 2 and 6 at a time and I was lucky enough to get pristine models every time.

The grainy structure (nearly) dissapears after 2 coats of varnish..Its a bit of work but you've got to file and sand the metal models till they are ready for painting too.

That said I will use Barry's pictures as a guide to do mine

    Very nice model Barry!

That is really tidy Baz - great job ! A clubmate turned up with one of those the other day sans base/pegs etc expecting me to do all that for him - he has been given direction & I can now show him how it's done.

Just needed a little filing & I glued a cut peg into your base.
The pegs are very light as they are hollow & would not be suitable for any heavy models such as Metal.

Do you plan an escort mission for your Hearts Squadron?

Looks great, but you need a pic with it next to a standard WOW scout for scale.

Beautiful model, Barry! It's a pity German archie will harass that crate over target
