Just like this one
Its about 3/4 size and wrong engine.

i cant tell whats wrong lol there may be something but they are both still amazing feats of engineering
Barry are these based on some other airframe or are they "kitset" aircraft.
And is that a Lycoming O/235 flat twin opposed air-cooled engine behind the "radiator".

Wish I had paid more attention to the one I saw now. It's in the Transport and Toy museum in Wanaka.
Did a search and found this site.

Tells it all.

Isn't the aircraft an undersize replica? The pilot looks too big.
I can't see any difference.
Searching the web... it is undersize: 7/8 scale.
Is it my bad eyesight but I can't see any ailerons. Even checked the website and they don't appear to have them either.
Man they would yaw all over the place.

Correction it appears there is a aileron on the bottom wing only.
The real SE5a had ailerons on both wings with a contacting cable between them.

Is that an antennae sticking out from under the pilot's butt?
Plus, the angle of fire of the wing-top MG is way off compared to the sight,.
Two things I think, the pilot is wearing an oxyen mask and the exaust pipes look too long!
The long exhaust pipe prevented the loss of night-vision from exhaust-flames during night-time operations.
And I guess, the "oxygen mask" is actually just a microphone. That would explain the aerial under the pilot.
It's not an SE5a but a scaled down replica with the ailerons in the lower wing. I remember seeing a group many years ago at Shoreham that flew 3/4 size replicas of SEs & a red tripe (of course!) who did dogfights ending with a plane 'going down' trailing smoke. I believe they stopped after the one trailing smoke failed to pull out one day & crashed (fatally if I remember correctly). Might even have photos of them somewhere.
Having just checked You Tube I see there is a Great War Display Team flying still in 2009 ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au6eU...eature=related but not sure if this is the same group.

Well spotted Chaps. My first impression was a down scaled job but the pilot just looks "wrong"!
However I am also wondering if it could even be a large scale radio controlled model ?
Did you notice what looks like a radio aerial under the cockpit.
Also the tail landing strut looks wrong.
Here's your Se5a

Looks like she is a 7/8 scale replica the aerial will be for a radio not a r/c unit.
There seems to be quite a few of them built
Linz
four cylinder flat engine gives it away
Check out the Hobby Room and a post by Bleudevil 'DAWN PATROL IN MINIATURE". You might see that plane there.
Nope just looked at the video of the RC planes.
