Thread: Tribute to Rob. Personal D.III repaint A "Flying Snake".

Default Tribute to Rob. Personal D.III repaint A "Flying Snake".

Rob (F.O. Kyte) was so generous sending me some rare decals and thanks to Him I could finally complete my old project to paint my personal D.III in a fantasy scheme for a solo pilot career development starting in March 1917. I know some of you won't like the use of such fine decals presented here, but - it's all about fun and hope you will forgive me. The pilot's name is Anton Schlange (Anthony Snake). I wanted the plane to be a historically possible one, not a complete strange, with more or less original camouflage elements. I repainted an original Voss plane, adding deep dark red to the fuselage and elevators.

    - Anton Schlange! Are you out of your mind?
I told you that you can paint the fuselage but didn't mean you can decorate it with a monster!
    - It's a not a monster, Sir, it's a flying snake. Snake is a symbol of wisdom in many cultures... A flying snake is even a wiser symbol. In the Bible, for example...
    - Are you going to give your opponents any apples?!
    - Yes sir. The poisoned ones.
    - Dismissed!

A very good job. You should (and probably are) proud.

Nothing to forgive; the plane wears them well.

Thanks for your kind remarks Andhzej, but I can't help feeling that your beautiful plane is greater than the sum of the parts.
I just hope your plane does not turn out to be a snake in the grass as far as the RFC. is concerned.

A Snake hunting in the grass, or, a snake smashed in the grass? You were a little unclear here, Rob...

Seems like I've seen a flying snake on a French Sopwith Strutter.

    Thumbs up

Great personal scheme & pilot background Andrzej! Looks the part.
I really like the idea of mythical pilots (just look at my "Hearts of Oak" chaps, they tend to take on a "life" of their own.
I will look forward to hearing the exploits of your snakey Pilot, Anton.
