Thread: Ju 52 (Zvezda 1/200) early war and desert camouflage

Default Ju 52 (Zvezda 1/200) early war and desert camouflage

Inspired by TOMATCHEF I bought two Junkers 52 "Tante Ju" for WW II gaming action.

Seems we have to wait a long time for Rain of Destruction and the HE 111 and B-25 miniatures. So it's it's good to have an option for escort/intercept missions with the transports.

The models are from a ZVEZDA plastic minature kit 1/200. The models are very cheap (2,99 € each), easy to assemble and to paint.

    A few comments:

    1. Some shown decals (special little symbols or a bigger variety of numbers or numbers) are not included
    2. Have to build better stands 80x100 mm to use Max Headrooms cards
    3. there was no turret MG to fix

This is my favourite africa version, escorted by Hauptmann Gustav Rödel's BF 109:

These planes rock! Sven, I'm taken aback. What a quality work of yours! What manouver cards do you use to fly them?

They look really great! I really like them both. The desert version and early war version stand out very well. Very good idea to paint them completely different. This way you can use them on different theaters. I've painted mine the same and realize they will rarely see the air together as I've not yet found a group to play with and therefore in a 1 player vs 1 player two Ju's are just to much.
I love the swastika's as well. Where did you find these? I would love to get some on my Ju's to really finish them off.

I'm looking also for better stands as reversing a normal stand looks kind of stupid.

The credit for the inspiration should go to Blackronin. He inspired me with his set of Ju's.

And now you can give my parachute idea a try . I've posted some new rules in the topic together with a new target card. Would be nice if you could give your opinion about it.

Ordered 1/144 decal set from the USA. Couldn't use the german crosses, but the svastikas.

Finally produced the flight stands for the Ju52s. Gave them a standart "A" damage rear firing arc and use Max Headrooms plane cards.

Hope we could manage a test flight at Prague SummerCon 2012.

Nice flight stands. What are the dimensions? Are the dimensions based on Max Headroom his card?

    Thank you guys!

Yes, the dimensions are indeed based on Max Headroom's card. 8 x 10 cm.

    Great looking planes there, Sven!

I found the Ju 52 at Hannants. Do they make other planes as well? How is the quality (detailing)?

I knew only a second model. It's a soviet transport plane, but you could paint it as an Allied one.

Have a look at Tomatchef's work:

    http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...ransport-plane

The quality of the Ju52 is good. Easy to assemble, not much tiny parts that could broke apart, etc...

Great stuff Sven. Now you need to make one with winter camo like in Where Eagles Dare.

That is a very nice paint... Tempted to buy a third Ju52 and paint it just like that...

@ Niclas: I find the Ju52's to be very well detailed for this scale. I find it has some more detail than the LI2 but thats mainly due to the skin surface of the Ju52. The LI2 has a flat surface and none of the panel lines are there except for the control surfaces. The side windows need to be painted with the Ju52 where the LI2 has transparent ones.
Both are easy to make but the Ju52 is slightly easier to make than the LI2. The LI has no difficulties however but it is harder to put it together in a straight way. On the three LI's I build the tail section needed rework to be able to glue it on nice and straight. A nice part of the LI2 is that you can easily convert it to look like a C-47. I've done this now 2 times. Otherwise check my albums to see more pics of the models.

    Thanks for the response, Thomas!
Not really into the WWII stuff, but seeing your and Sven's builds of this one, along with von Klugermann's tip about the the winter cammo, I couldn't resist ordering a couple. Figuring out the decal's can wait until I've built and painted them I guess.

    Cheers,
    Niclas

If you do one with the winter camo please post it. I'd love to see it.

I just picked up 3 of these at Historicon yesterday. I got them for $4.00 and then saw someone else wanting $3.50. Should have picked them up also as it would have been a good score. I did get 2 Stormovick's (1/144) and after I should have bought the LaGG 3 and Me-109's they had in 1/144. Oh well
