Ooooh, it looks like my brand new Nexus Lufbery/Thenault Nieuport 17 that I have on its way to me, due to be delivered next weekend, is going to arrive just in time for this contest.

Can a 23 be entered? Externally identical....
I assume a 17bis is not OK, fuselage is rounded like a 24bis.

What about an SSW D.I? I suggest not, different cowling. But a captured N17 should be OK.

Ha, I have two primed and ready to go, but I'm not really feeling very Nieuportish right now.

Oh, unless you include 23s, in which case there is one I've had in mind for a long while now.

  7. #7

I'll allow the 23 as you can't really tell them apart.

Looks like I'll sit this one out too; can't justify hunting down a 10th 17/23. I might've been convinced to try my hand at an 11...

    Good luck everyone!

I think Shapeways may be the go. I was hoping Kampflieger had it, his detail/wing leading and trailing edges are better, but Colinwe's stuff is good too.

Will have to sit this one out too. A Nieuport 11 maybe, but no 17s in the hangar for a repaint at the moment

Just spent an hour looking for an N17 this morning and the same last night. Looks like finding any new plane for a repaint will be a problem. Might have to sit this one out.

I bet you only tried English language sites...

I expect that I will end up doing a new build for mine. Still it will kill two birds with one stone as I can write up a "How to" at the same time.

Jan is probably right. No problem to find a new Nieuport mini in our part of EU for a reasonable price like 5,5 €.

Being able to get food and drink in several non English languages is about as much as I can manage, getting on the right side of ordering an N17 might prove a plane too far.

I would be quite happy to commission you to sell me one if you could get it Andrzej. Desperate times require desparate measures.

You can always ask some pilot from that country to help you.

Only one of the shops in my country seems to to have any Nieuports available and that one only has Kibanov's Nieuport 23, for 195 CZK, that is just below 8 EUR, there are other stores in other countries though.

I admit being responsible for 4 Nieuports disappearing from the Czech stores, two of them Kibanov's 23's, one Nungesser's 17 and one Lufbery/Thenault's 17.

I just perused a bunch of Polish and Czech shops and their stocks look pretty limited to me, none of them had the Nieuports in stock, I now recognise Sold out in Polish and Czech

It's incredible to me, and of course I do not know the ins and outs of it all, but I cannot understand how such a popular game as WoW gets to the point where no one can buy the aircraft. From the forums on here a pile of money has been spent on models from whatever source which could have been in their coffers, good luck to Ares but they better get a move on.

It is simple. Nexus had more games than WOW under their branch and not all of those were as successful as WOW. Nexus basically went bankrupt and the source of the airplanes went dry.

Ares is still at the very start of re-publishing the whole game.

Oh, I almost forgot about this reply. This Czech shop still has Kibanov, but I am not sure how it is with them and sending packages abroad:

Sure, the shop is in Prague, about 50-60 minutes by bus and tram away from where I work. I will see if I can get to the shop on Friday, if not, I should be able to get there next week.

If you can't find a Nexus to repaint, and are not afraid of building a kit, you might try the warweb.com website. I was able to pick up some Skytrex/Red Eagle Nieuports a couple weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised how fast I recieved them.

Sorry to say, but the models are really sold out. I've made a research tonight thru all online stores known to me and what was seen 1-2 weeks ago is now gone.
Hope Jan showed a valid link.
If any Nieuports show up in stores here, I'll alert you.

Found a Dallas S.E.5a and a Galland Me 109, but no Nieuport.

There is a Kibanov for 14 € + shipping from Berlin on the Amazon website, but that's too much for a repaint.

I took comfort in buying two Ju 52 in 1/200 + shipping for 8 € for DoW transport missions.

Are the Skytrex Neuiports any good? Some of their kits are good, but others are awful! Anyone got some feedback?

    Well Gentlemen,

I think I'll jump in on this one. I missed the D-III contest due to life getting in the way the last few months. I do take pleasure in knowing I had a very small part in Tony achieving his victory, by providing the raw material for his masterful repaint in a fantastic trade a while back. Congrats Tony , you've set a impossibly high standard for the rest of us.

I can't bring myself to repaint either of my spare WoW Nieuports, but I've a couple of old Red Eagle models handy. I've just cleaned the mini and used some brass rod for the cabana struts since the ones provided are so frail. I can't figure outhow to replace the V struts so they'll just have to do.

Engard' Gentlemen, let the contest begin!

The link Jan provided does indeed show at least two Klibanov's for sale, I emailed the company but so far have had no response to whether they would ship to the UK. I have one other possible avenue open to me, but if that proves useless I will sit this one out as I like the three N17's I already have.

If you can wait a week Dave, I will let you know.
I have decided to go that route, as there is such a shortage of planes from Nexus that I'm leaving any that turn up for the chaps who can't assemble their own. It would be a bit churlish of me to nab one when I am able to go the other route.
It will also give me a chance to do a "How To" on another plane.
    Rob.

Sounds like a plan Rob. I might have to put a bit of a wish list together, I think some AA trucks would be cool too

Alright, there are still 4 Nieuport 23's in the shop in Prague but the shop owner does not send goods abroad. I guess I would have to buy those and send them to anyone interested in the repaint contest.

Jan.. any idea what the total cost would be to ship one to the United States..
for the right price I would be willing to add 1 to the list so your trip isn't just for a single purchase..

  49. #49

    Default

Well, I will have to pack one up, go to the post office and ask about the price based on the weight.

I once sent 5 planes to Germany and the whole package was actually still considered a "letter" due to the low weight and just about the right size, which meant a significantly lower postage fee. However, sending stuff inside the EU might be a bit less expensive than sending it across the ocean.

I will try to get an estimation of the fee ASAP.

"A man won't sell you his life, but he'll give it to you for a piece of colored ribbon." Old Soldier's saying

That's not meant as a snide remark in this case, but an observation of an almost universal truism with servicemen (and women).
