Book Title: Aces Falling: War Above the Trenches, 1918
Author: Peter Hart
ISBN: 978-0-7538-2407-8
Category: History
Format: Paperback
Summary: Similar in style and sourcing of material to 'Bloody April', this 386pp book covers the final year of the war on the Western Front. It draws heavily on quoted contemporary sources to follow the chronology and illustrate, mostly from the Britsh/American point of view, the events of that year and how airpower evolved and contributed to them. Like 'Bloody April', the use of so much contemporary content, drawn largely from personal diaries and letters, although there are some HQ-level reports, tends to draw the activity down to a very tactically focussed level. Published in 2007, it does benefit from up-to-date research of the personnel, technical advances and actions on the ground and in the air, and is an easy and enjoyable read.
