Thread: To the Official Unofficial Aircraft Stats team

Default To the Official Unofficial Aircraft Stats team

The Oberst has recognised our work by giving us all a "Special Ops" gong.

It was a true team effort, so I'm particularly gratified that the entire team was recognised.

Possibly the most useful part of our work wasn't just doing the research on all the aircraft; it was that we were able to come up with a systematic way for anyone else to determine the WGF stats of their favourite planes that aren't on the list.

This will be an ongoing effort as new planes are released of course, and as new data to refine our calculations comes in.

This is version 2 - we already have 2.1 planned (including bombers), and a late correction due to better data about the Roland VIa and VIb engine powers.

The stats and cards that will be available before Christmas will allow everyone a greater choice of aircraft to play with, including all the non-bombers produced by Colinwe and Kampfflieger at Shapeways, plus Skytrex, F-toys and Reviresco.

Call it a Christmas present from the Aerodrome to the membership.

Bombers will follow very shortly, hopefully before the new year. We have the stats already, but firing arcs are still under consideration.

Thanks very much to the Oberst for not just the concept, but also placing files in appropriate places and giving useful feedback to us. I think he was as surprised as we were at the amount of work involved - and the amount that our little team of habitual over-achievers was able to accomplish in such a short period.

    He deserves a medal too.

Oh, I knew how much work it was going to be, why do you think I facilitated setting up a committee to do it and not my self?

You are correct though, I was surprised at how quickly the group managed to knock this fine bit of work out! I only wish I could give you more than just a digital medal (even it it is the 2nd highest medal on the site!)!

Sir! We didn't do it for the medal! Sir!
We did it because... because... well... hmmm...
    IT WAS NEEDED, Sir!

(oh, and I did it for the reputation... need to beat Zoe some day... but that's a long long way before me!) [kidding! I'll never beat here! Just not feasable...]

The only correction to the table is that the Roland VI should have an F manouver. Everything else is pretty much set in concrete now. You may wish to do 2 versions of the Bristol Scout C: one which fired over the prop or with the earliest interruptor gear, and the more usual one with firing arc offset 45 degrees on the left. So it shoots from 285-345 rather than 330-030.

Thanks! We did what, 75 aircraft or so?

I confess I did it mostly out of self-interest. You see, while I don't have one of every aircraft Shapeways makes... there aren't many gaps. And I want to use them as much as everyone else. OK, maybe not mostly out of self-interest, but that was a part of it. I was fortunate enough to be working with others whose knowledge at least matched my own, it's undoubtedly far better than anything I could do myself, no matter how long I spent at it. I suppose we should have had some sort of co-ordinator, but we worked so well as a "band of brothers" - and one sister - we didn't need one.

It wasn't just work - it was fun. I was teamed with a great bunch of guys, from all over the planet. I hope I get to actually meet some of them some day.

Just one question the manouver deck for the BE2c is an XC is that the deck out of the flight of the giants?

  21. #21

Yes it is Alastair, all of the X decks are.

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all who helped put this together.
I could not have asked for a better team of people to work with.
Your encouragement and sheer volume of work that you guys and girl put out was a challenge to keep up with.
Like Zoe I to would love to meet up with each of you one day.
    Thanks for your friendship.

    Default A question

I have a question regarding the stats:

    - what does Damage Type "+/B" mean, for example for the Be2C or Short Bomber?

    Thank you!

The new listings have been a great help. I have a couple of Skytrex Airco DH 2s. I have though of using P B 11 9 5 for them. Does that appear to be correct?

Thanks for the rapid response. The DH2s are stronger than I expected for an earlier airplane. I now see it on the 2.2 available aircraft listing

My all your missions be good ones this new year.

There was talk on other thread on changing the manouver decks for the DH2 & Focker EIII. Just to clarify this point am I right in that this has not happened and the stats for these aircraft are the one designated by ARES.

You're correct. We should though give a recommendation that is purely optional. It is just barely possible that the ARES version MAY follow these recommendations.

    Version 3 is now up.
This contains corrections to stats for 3 aircraft, and adds new ones recently produced.
Version 3.1 is likely to have stats for a hypothetical armed version of the JN-4, plus the Pfalz A.II and E.III, which use the Morane L model. As they had an engine 25% more powerful, it made quite a difference to speed (by 30 km/h in fact).
