Thread: US Mexico Border Patrol

    Default US Mexico Border Patrol

There is so much that is not written about the border raids by Mexican revolutionist and federals during the early part of the last centry. Growingmup in that area and loving aviation I was always mesmerized by the few stories of sorties in areas like Big Bend (Texas) or flights that patroled the border of Arizona. And of course the possibility of Mexico jumping in with Germany during the war (had it not been for internal strife)

SomethingnI found this morning.... From http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/fac...eet.asp?id=324

"Continued raids by Mexican bandits on American homesteads led to the creation of the United States Army Border Air Patrol in June 1919. Comprised of eight squadrons and a photographic unit at its peak, the Border Air Patrol operated*out of a string of rough airfields along the U.S.-Mexico border. Despite the loss of aircraft and aircrews to the harsh conditions in the Southwest, the Border Air Patrol put an end to bandit attacks by the summer of 1921."

Imagine patroling in a craft when there were so little knows such as air density altitude, navigation, etc.....

Just had to share this little known part of history.
