Very useful, will help a lot when I get some DII's.
I presume that the planes that look yellow are in the natural wood colour.

With the dope over the top, they've been described as a "warm yellow" colour. So anywhere from natural plywood to a deep yellow, as shown by the variation in the illustrations. Photos of the period show significant variation, almost a mottling effect too. Sometimes a clear shellac was used, sometimes the same yellow-tinted version used on Halberstadts and D1s to match the colour of doped canvas.

You'll find a detailed explanation in http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/ai...-aircraft.html including which wing 3-colour markings came from which factory and batch number.

And for those who have to have a red (OK, red-brown) one...

    Beautiful models. Well done Zoe.
Also, thanks for the colour information and the side views.
    So far, my "early" war collection is: 4 Eindekkers (scratch-built), 4 SS D1s (scratch) and 4 Halberstadt D.II/IIIs (scratch) facing 4 DH-2s (scratch), 6 Nieuport 17s (store-bought) and 4 BE-2c's (scratch).
Next building season (Spring and Summer) I think I'll add the Albatros D.II.

Not me - but I intend to take delivery of a Shapeways one. Most of those models are 1/48, the rest 1/72
