Thread: Wildcat vs. Zero

  1. #1

    Question Wildcat vs. Zero

Just starting out my 1st campaign in DoW, early Guadalcanal, so my kid will be running Zeros and I get the Wildcats.

So, does the Thatch weave actually work in DoW? I'm guessing with the higher firepower of the F4F4, it just might, but I'd like to hear some thoughts from experienced players.

Any other tactics against the Zero?

I've played DoW many many times and haven't tried the Thatch weave. Now I will have to try it next time. I think you would have to use the Immelmann after passing or getting to the edge of the map.

If you use it let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks

    Thumbs up

Will you be using the altitude rules, or keeping it simple. The best tactic against the Zero is out numbering them two to one! You will not out turn a Zero, break away do an Immelmann and make another pass. The best advice is the Zeros always pull high damage chips!

Now with speed one can out turn the other. Just who is turning slower. Also know when to run and Immelmann.

For right now, we are not using altitude rules, but we do plan on using them once we get a better feel for the game. And yeah, I've figured out you don't outturn a Zero. Well, the Poliarkov's and the bi-planes can, but their firepower is too pitiful to go up against the Zero.

    Frank!

Just remember if you think the Poliarkov's have light armament try a KI-43 instead of an Zero!

I found this on YouTube! A war time propaganda movie! featuring the the KI-43 Oscar in the staring roll plus captured P-40`s and Brewster Buffalo's! It shows why you did not want to turn into a Zero or an Oscar!

That is an awesome video! Even without all the propaganda crap thrown in, you can see just how maneuverable those dang things were.

I saw that and thought of you! Yes they are manuverable, the pilot skill is what made them dangerous!

Nice find Richard. I like seeing propaganda films. It pumps the pilots up.

    Thanks for sharing.
